CWU WORK SAFELY CAMPAIGN

Post by johnnyp »

To All CWU Delivery Members

Dear Colleague,

WORK SAFELY - PROTECT YOURSELF – PROTECT YOUR JOB

The CWU are asking you to support our campaign to ‘Work Safely’.

Unfortunately many of you still believe that things will just carry on as they have always done in delivery and that you will be able to ignore Health & Safety rules, use your cars and basically get in - get out - and get finished. If that is what you still think, then you are in for a big shock because Royal Mail has made it clear that they expect you to work for all the hours that you get paid.

Royal Mail continues to ignore the tremendous effort put in on a daily basis by their employees who deliver the mail. They consider you under worked, that you all make time every day and that there is plenty of scope and spare capacity to remove hours from Delivery Offices, and for you to be able to absorb other people’s work when they are absent through sickness or annual leave.

Why do they think this? Because every day they see our members start before their time, not take their full meal relief (in some cases they don’t take any), use their private cars and carry all their ‘probably’ overweight pouches in their private cars. They see it and they choose to ignore it because it suits their plans for your future and it provides the platform for their savings programme, but most important of all they think you will continue to do this regardless of what they put in front of you.

However, Royal Mail are now stating that Health & Safety is at the top of their list of priorities and we want you to help make this happen by working safely, to protect yourself and protect your job.

It is time Royal Mail demonstrated their support for Delivery OPG’s and begin to appreciate just how much the delivery network takes advantage of the good will and self sacrifice of those who deliver the mail. It’s time for delivery members to stand shoulder to shoulder with their colleagues up and down the Country and start Working Safely to protect yourself and your job.

The CWU is launching the Work Safely Campaign nationally from Monday, 6th April. Campaign material has been sent to all Branches for distribution to all Delivery Offices. We want you to join your colleagues around the Country and make it a day to remember, a day when delivery members finally wake up and stop cutting corners and start working safely.

If Royal Mail is sincere in their new approach to Health & Safety they should show respect for their delivery employees and support this campaign.

Please support each other and your Trade Union.

WORK SAFELY

DON’T CUT CORNERS – PROTECT YOURSELF – PROTECT YOU JOB

Yours sincerely,

This is the exact same as the "do the job properly" letter, which would be fine if they had updated the aspects relating to job & finish which we no longer have! I know that some staff still finish early but the operational managers can stop that any time they want. Why make it sound like we have a job and finish when we don't ? especially as we may again have to take strike action over pegasus. RM are all ready adept enough at twisting things without CWU HQ helping them! Surely to f**k it's not to much for HQ to update this. :arrrghhh

Phase 3 flexibility says utilise all paid work hours, we have a area aggrement that says if the managers want us to do any extra work over and above our normal duty they have to inform us before we go out on delivery. If they dont then we go home once finished even if thats early!!!!

Early starters come in early to get done early not to finish on time.

The work is on site to make a pre 6am start time viable and that is whats gets overlooked by HQ everytime they want a doing the job properley campaign.
