A dog owner has been warned that should his bulldog ever bite anyone again, she will be put down.

Martin Blaney was walking his English bulldog Sansa not on a lead when the pet attacked a postman delivering mail to the houses in the street.

The postie was bitten on the leg and knee and suffered ligament injuries. He will require an operation to his knee to rectify the damage.

Blaney was arrested and charged with one count of being the owner/person in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury in connection with the incident on September 26 last year.

A sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court today (Friday, December 5) heard how the bulldog had not been on a lead but luckily did not cause any more damage to the postman or attack anyone else, such as a child.

His Honour Judge James Adkin told Blaney, 51, from Penarwyn Road in St Blazey near St Austell, that had it been the case, his dog would have been taken away from him and most likely put down.

He ordered that Blaney pays £1,000 in compensation. Judge Adkin also imposed a 7pm to 7am curfew for three months and ordered that Blaney's Bulldog is muzzled and on a lead at all time when out and that Blaney's property is made dog proof so the dog cannot escape when out in the garden.

Judge Adkin added: "Sansa will not be put down but if she bites again she will be put down."
