6 hour delivery span

Post by guardianangel »

just a question for any health and safety rep or union rep. A few years ago we went to a 5.15 hr delivery span which at least half the walks were taking 6.00 hrs to 6.15 and we have been cutting off and the other hour being carried out by overtime or extra workers ,
even thou most walks were never found proper facilities to take a break. Now bosses have got people in early so when i go in the walks just need throwing in and tying up,hence forced out early to complete a 6.15 delivery span and the walks that were ok forced to lapse and do a 6.15 delivery. My delivery is 8 miles from delivery office and all residential and there is no facilities to take a proper break, what is worrying me is the other day driving back to the office after a 12 mile walk i found myself struggling to stay awake, has there been a risk assessment for a 6.15 hr delivery span if not why not and if so could someone from Health and Safety please post because its only a matter of time before we have a serious accident.

How do the 25 hr people in your office complete that?
You can take a break for 40 minutes in the van, please do remember how lucky we are, most people in the country have to work at least 8 hours a day.

"8 hours" Not without a break they don't its illegal, and you should be able to leave your workspace for a break and when its pissing down with rain who wants to sit in a van in wet clothes and where do you go toilet too,i know posties peeing in a bottle in the back of their van ,it should never be. A posties job is a one off ,apart from the binman there is no other job where you are out walking in the rain for 6 hours solid, personally if longer delivery spans are brought in i think the union have a big role to play ,maybe do 3 hours back to office for 40 min break then another 3, i know the job killers will not like it but if it saves lives and keeps people safe im all for it,its no good shouting once the horse has bolted.

the 30 hr people just come in tie up and go and are always asked to walk over, and we don't have 25hr duties.

Nationally longer delivery spans wont happen as most offices rely on 25 hour and even 18 hour contracts to staff the office. Nationally they cant go over 5 hour delivery spans without either increasing everyones contract to at least 30 hours or moving the work patterns so that 25hr and under people only do 4 days or less.

If you leave the office at 8am having had 20 minutes meal relief (because the IPS has been advanced) and your finish time is 3pm then you have an outdoor time of 7 hours. Minus 30 minutes travelling to and from delivery that leaves you a potential delivery span of 6h 10.
How exactly are you going to cut off?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Exactly they are cutting our indoor work and making us walk longer,i wish Terry what's his name would come on and explain, might drop him a message that's if he'll ever answer it ,he was suppose to come to our AGM a couple of times but cancelled
