Yes, we do have deadlines, but we don't have another shift coming in to take over from us. If we can't do the work it doesn't get done.

I have taken it up with the CWU and the Local RM H&S Manager/Director on numerous occasions and it changed for us locally, we don't get pallets, we don't Yorkies wrapped in plastic and we don't get baseless cardboard shrouds. The director stated simply that "It shouldn't be happening, I'll get this sorted" and he did.

Yet you still are missing the point.

YOU are not paid to make the decision that it's tough on the DOs and you have to send it.

The managers CAN make that decision as they have legal protection (hopefully), you as a Postman can't make that decision, you won't have legal protection if someone is injured by your decision.

But even the managers can't make the decision without first checking with the local managers, as there is no point in sending it if we can't deal or cope with it due to reasons the MC may be unaware of.

So whether you are a Manager or a Postie, YOU should not be making the decision in isolation.

We're paid to get the mail sorted and out the door, it's not down to use what gets used to get it out the door. It's not our problem if the next office in the line can't handle it

IT IS DOWN TO YOU IF IT AFFECTS HEALTH AND SAFETY.

Its the law https://www.hse.gov.uk/workers/responsi ... rements%20.
Under health and safety law, the primary responsibility for this is down to employers. Workers have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions at work. Workers must co-operate with employers and co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements

Again, take it up with higher up to make sure that all MCs have enough yorks and trays. If we've not got the room to store it, it WILL get sent on to the next office. tbqf I don't think anyone anywhere gives a s**t about H&S as technically many of the yorks should be out of service as loads have got broken clips. If we don't use them the other shifts will. In any case we don't have any place to store broken equipment this time of year as where they'd normally go will be either work storage or a temporary walkway

I will not sort from a cardboard yorkie with no base. I refuse. Either The manager empties it into something else suitable or it dosnt get done. A lack of equipment is a piss poor excuse.
Nor will I pull 2 or 3 York’s at once. I leave that to some other fool.

They'll just get a casual to do it and you'll probably get moved elsewhere. With large and small packets being mixed together all the time, there's a very high probability that all cardboard sleeves will have at least 1 item that's heavy enough that the bases can't be used. Think off-hand it's 1 2Kg limit

They won’t be moving me anywhere for doing the job correctly. I don’t mix large with small. Large stuff go in with the large stuff, I pulled my back leaning in for heavy items. It Won’t happen again. Any yorks with large items that are mixed in with small gets pushed to the manager, along with the ones with no bases in. I choose to let them put their back at risk.
I raised it with the shift manager who’s response was if a large item comes in a sleeved / cardboard York mixed with the small then it goes out the same way. Shitty attitude from a lazy manager, who is now no longer with the business. Unless you stand up for yourself and the health and safety of others, they will piss it up the wall and walk all over you.

You can't be doing too much work then as just about all sleeves and yorks are a random mix of large and small, Tracked and non Tracked. It's been raised so many times that no one gives a s**t anymore. EVERY MC is guilty of sending out large and small, Tracked and non Tracked out together. All packet areas have to have sleevs/yorks for Tracked to go onto and vice versa. Just about every cardboard sleeves that goes in or out won't have a base, I don't think RM are even issuing bases anymore. It's about a 2Kg limit for the bases if there's even a single item that's above 2Kg then they can't be used, we don't have the time to be weighing every item, so that's probably why all the bases have gone.

With the large and small mixed together it's down to whoever is on the tipping to separate the large from the small. With the PSMs I believe it's quite a large size of packet that they can handle so we've all got to get used to there being more large mixed in with the small.

They can move you by the way. They can move any of us to any work area that we're trained for at any time

I do plenty.
Because I’m good at what I do.
I’m happy to do anything I’m trained to do, it’s my job.
But I will do it safely and how it should be done.
