When NRA60 was the norm did people ever stay on!
Before the ever increasing pension age did most posites go at 60 or given the more relax atmosphere in those days stay on? Or were you forced to go after 60 anyway in those days!

Pension was never that great to retire at 60. A few went, but those who stayed on went on a 3 month rolling contract if my memory serves me right. These days there is no retirement age as such.

The Default Retirement Age was scrapped in 2011. Before that RM required that you leave when you took your pension. In my mc some took it and retired, others took it and left for other jobs, often in firms' post rooms.
I think deltaforce is correct, if you didn't take the pension you were kept on a 3 month contract, which was renewable subject to health and ability considerations. They were usually people who hadn't worked at RM long enough to get enough pension to live on until they got the State Pension at 65.

When NRA60 was the norm did people ever stay on!
A few blokes I know / knew left and went on to do other jobs. That way they accessed their pension and got a wage until their state pension at 65. One who lives round the corner from me got his full pension, 40 years back then. Started in 1957 and retired in 1997. Still going now. There's a few others I know too, all in their 80's now, one will be 90 in July, and he retired from RM, 3 months before I started.

I found an old POPs brochure from 1993 where it saids that you can retire at NRA60 and get a maximum of 40/60 pension. And goes on to say that if you retire after normal retiring age your pension may be increased to up to 45/60. Never read that anywhere else!
