Posss Deferred
Your Post Office Staff Superannuation Scheme(POSSS) pension is the old name for the Royal Mail Pension Plan section A/B.
You will be able to access your pension from age 55 but will face a 5% per year reduction for each year you take it before normal retirement age.
Or, you may also be able to access your pension on ill health grounds if the schemes trustees agree. More info is in the ‘your options as a deferred member’ guide, available here: https://www.royalmailpensionplan.co.uk/ ... an/library" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The important bit being this:

Can I take my benefits early?
There are some circumstances when you can apply to receive your benefits before Normal Retiring Age:
Ill health
If you are too ill to work at any time after you leave the Company, you may be eligible to receive your benefits early (without any reduction) on ill health grounds. If this applies, all of your RMSPS benefits (NRA 60 benefits and NRA 65 benefits) must start to be paid at the same time.
In order to establish whether you qualify for immediate payment of your benefits you will need to apply to the PSC who will ask you to complete an authority for a medical report from your GP or specialist. The report will be sent to our medical adviser who will consider your application against the Rules on ill health retirement and applicable tax legislation.
To qualify for immediate payment, we have to agree that you could have been granted ill health retirement had you still been in Company employment.
If you are under age 55, however, you must not be engaged in any employment at the time of application or payment.

Posss Deferred
Thank you for the link.
I asked the pension department for a CETV, but they want me to sign to say that should I choose to transfer out I agree to the pension being treated the same as it is currently. The pension dept are refusing to supply this information unless I sign the document. Is this right? I cannot see this statement in the link you sent for deferred pension
Many Thanks
