Currently off on the sick can you take vr when you can't return to work due to ill health?

If it is offered in your office and you are senior enough I think you can.
I knew one guy who was on long term sick for almost 6 months. VR was offered and he took it. That was a few years back.
Edit: But bear in mind that VR payment is based on last 26 weeks pensionable earnings, so if you have been on half pay for last 6 months you would get half the amount you would have got on full pay.
