Is your pension enhanced at 55? advice please

Post by stroller »

Hi everybody,

VR is being offered again in our office, i am tempted to take it just in case it is not offered again or it is a worst deal in the future.

I am nearly 53 so if i took VR i would have to wait 2 years to start getting my pension if i called it in, i have done 32 years service, a few people have told me if i wait until i am 55 and if VR is still around i would get a much bigger VR payout plus a bigger pension as i would be enhanced, is that true or not.

Any opinions would be great, would any of you leave without a pension? or would you wait and hope VR is still around at 55?

Look forward to your replies

vr is looking promising with tnt opening more depots, they are supposedly going to take all the "uk mail" off us too. we could lose two thirds of our sequenced mail. they open in birmingham in november.
we are losing most of amazon too, they are opening in the midlands soon
i want evr so welcome all this
i believe if you are over 55 and take evr your pension is reduced by 10%

Your pension is reduced by 5% for each year you take it early. ie taking your final salary pension at 55 reduces it by 25%. Taking your Career Average pension at 55 would reduce it by 50%.
