Latest DBCBS increase

Post by RobertT »

For anyone who's interested and who hasn't yet seen the latest edition of 'Pensions News', the DBCBS has increased by 3.7% this year.

It aims to at least match the rate of CPI inflation the previous September, which was 1.7%.

Previous years increases were as follows(with CPI in brackets):

2020 – 3.7%(1.7%)
2021 – 1.7%(0.5%)
2022 – 4.6%(3.1%)
2023 – 11.3%(10.1%)
2024 – 6.7%(6.7%)

I may be misreading it but are the years the wrong way round with 2024 meant to be at the top?

Lol!

It's in chronological order, if you want to read the most recent figures first, then start at the bottom. :cuppa

Why do you think they're the wrong way round? :hmmmm

I'm probably one of the few, if not the only one, who's sad enough to keep a record of these things on an annual basis.

But if you want to confirm the figures for yourself, just take a look at the pensions newsletters here: https://www.royalmailpensionplan.co.uk/ ... e=18&text=

Because on the top post you stated that last year was 3.7 and the previous year was 1.7. And the chart said 2020 is 3.7 and 2021 was 1.7. Also wasn’t 2021 ( year after covid ) the high one at 11+%? Now if I’m wrong I’m wrong I will succumb to your superior knowledge 😁

No I didn't!

This years(2025) increase for the DBCBS was 3.7%.
The benchmark they use is the rate of CPI inflation the previous September, which they aim to at least match. CPI in September 2024 was 1.7%.

I'm not sure why that is so difficult to understand. :hmmmm

Like I said, if you don't believe me, check the figures for yourself. :cuppa
Google is your friend for the CPI percentages.

Sorry not meaning to come across as argumentative it must just be the way I’ve read what you put. I’ll try explain. The chart said
2020 – 3.7%(1.7%)
2021 – 1.7%(0.5%)
2022 – 4.6%(3.1%)
2023 – 11.3%(10.1%)
2024 – 6.7%(6.7%)
You said this years increase was 3.7 last years 1.7. I see the chart saying 2024 6.7. Now it may be me missing something or misreading something but that was where I was coming from 🤷‍♂️. Again not being argumentative and genuinely bowing to your knowledge just trying to understand it.

He got the 2020 figure mixed up with this year which you didn't put 2025 on as it is the same percentage I can see what happened.

This is what I wrote in the original post:

Sorry but either you don't understand how increases to the DBCBS work, despite me explaining it, or you don't understand plain English.

The chart tells you what the previous years increases were with CPI for the previous September in brackets.
So 2024's increase was 6.7% and CPI in September 2023 was also 6.7%.
2023's increase was 11.3% compared to CPI in September 2022 of 10.1%.
And so on.

Once again, my sincerest apologies for the sheer audacity of asking for clarification — clearly a bold move on my part. I must have completely misunderstood the chart (which, as we know, is perfectly clear to everyone else), and foolishly read it as:
2020 – 3.7,
2021 – 1.7,
2022 – 4.6,
2023 – 11.3,
2024 – 6.7.

So when you mentioned this year’s increase was 3.7, I naturally assumed you meant the number next to 2020. Silly me — plain English clearly escapes me. Perhaps a remedial course would help.

Just to be crystal clear: I never called you a liar, nor was I being confrontational (though I understand even basic questions can come across that way in certain circles). So thank you ever so much for the information you generously shared. Please do continue your invaluable work.

Warmest regards,
