I requested a transfer value out schedule from Capita which took 4 months to arrive. I immediately noticed that the member reference number was incorrect.
I rang Capita to log a request for another transfer value out schedule with my correct member reference number.
I was told that we all have 2 different member reference numbers assigned to our individual pension plan and it just depends on the administrator completing the task as to which number will be used on paperwork. I stated that I wished to receive formal confirmation why the use of 2 different scheme numbers is required and managed.
In over 30 years I've never heard of this nor have I ever received any documentation with this 2nd scheme number.
Has anyone else experienced the use of 2 different numbers on their documents.
I thought that the member scheme number was unique.
How can you validate your Id when they ask you to provide your member number if you have 2 In use.
Am I being overly concerned by Capita applying another scheme number following the statement in this year's Annual Accounts Dec 24 that the data breach in 2023 they stated effected 123 RMsps members has actually effected nearly 1500 people along with the reduced functionality of the portal.

Re: RMSPS Member Reference Number - Capita say we have 2 numbers
The first thing to note is that you can only transfer your RMSPS benefits to another defined benefit pension, such as a final or average salary scheme.
You can't transfer them out to a defined contribution scheme, such as a SIPP!
The other reason why you might want a Cash Equivalent Transfer Value(CETV) is for divorce purposes.
Personally, any correspondence I've received relating to my benefits from both the RMSPS and RMPP have always had the same reference number on them.
I can't think of any logical reason why we'd all have two!
But I have experienced different numbers on the occasions I've complained.
So the question I ask is, are the two numbers in the same format which might suggest they've mixed you up with someone else?
Or are they different, which might suggest it's an internal thing and associated with the specific request you're making?
*You can transfer all RMPP benefits to a DC scheme(pending the £30k advice rule).

Re: RMSPS Member Reference Number - Capita say we have 2 numbers
I agree that two different numbers appear on the documentation for the RMSPS. In my case, 1 number is the same as the RMPP number and appears on the annual RMSPS statements. However, the first time I caught sight of the second number was when I filled in the paperwork for my RMSPS NRA60 benefits. It referenced a totally different number which nearly caught me out when I filled out the paperwork for other pension providers.
