Advice please .

Post by comeracing »

As we all know anyone who's still working at RM well done ,awful job now , I'm trying to plan ahead ,very tough but going to try stick the job out until summer 2027 , I'll be 55 then and want to take my reduced lump sum and weekly pension, I'd have had 31 years service by then ,I'd love to call both pensions now and just ask if I was 55 now what would be my figures but obviously know I will have to wait 3 months before I'm 55 , with the minimum wage not far off royal mail pay now ,there will be many departing in the incoming months/years , both pension statements are so hard to understand, My lump sum I'm not too concerned with as I have no mortgage, but my plan is to carry on Working elsewhere 30 + hours a week and take my pension at 55 ,I'm just after a figure really would I get a minimum pension of £60 a week / £240 monthly if I go at 55 with 31 years .

I would think your NRA 60 would pay £240 a month no problem, especially once you leave you can then also receive the pension supplement.if you sign up to royalmailsps.co.uk you can get a calculation of what your NRA60 is by changing you retirement date to whatever you want. This will not be a completely accurate figure but will be enough to give you an idea.
Having left RM myself after 28yrs, this page is invaluable with the minefield of RM pensions :thumbup

If you put your RMPP figures into the online calculator you will be able to see what you would get at 55. This will help with your plans.

As bad as things are at RM do not assume that getting a minimum wage job elsewhere will be any better. As someone who used to work RM and who now works elsewhere for just above min wage, my experience of employers is that they are worse than RM. The benefits are less and the workload is more.

Good luck with your plans

The RMPP website has a calculator on it for post 2012 benefits.

The RMSPS website has an 'illustrator' for pre 2012 benefits.
That requires you to sign up and login to their online portal, which apparently some people struggle to do. And it then includes your total RMSPS benefits, so isn't separated into Age60 and Age65!
Links to all RM pension related websites are here
