RMPP agrees early release of escrow and GBP900 question

Hi,

I am a Royal Mail pensioner who lives outside UK and so I am not 'up to speed' with what is happening in Royal Mail at present. My question is, after reading the two threads regarding RMPP agrees early release of escrow and GBP900, I would like to know if those who are already receiving pensions will be likely to benefit from this 'windfall' or is it aimed only at those who are still employed within the Royal Mail? Furthermore, is their any timeline relating to this potential payment, if it includes pensioners? Thanks for any information.

As I indicated in my post, I have been living outside the UK for a number of years (21 years) and so am not up-to-date with what is happening over there. I read, in the pension section of this site, that the trustees had released a tranche of money and then I also read that 900 GB pounds was to be allocated. I merely wished to know if this payment would be exclusively for those currently still employed in Royal Mail, or if it also included pensioners.

As for did I go on strike, yes I did, I think it was back in the late 1990's when we had a number of stoppages in which I took part. I left Royal Mail in 2002 and have since spent only about 10 days in the UK.

The escrow was originally set up as an emergency fund to help the RMPP, should it get into any financial trouble.

Personally I think it should stay as such, or else be used for the benefit of, or shared out between all RMPP members, whether they're employed, deferred or pensioners.

Instead, it's being used as an incentive to get a yes vote in the recent pay and modernisation negotiations between RM and CWU.

Only those employed by RM on a certain date will get any money, even those not even in the RMPP.

To answer your question, the £900 is for current employees of Royal Mail, pensioners or those who have left the business will not be getting it.

I did 18 days of strikes, I've now left but i get nothing, how is that fair. I don't even get the back pay even though I was there for nearly 2 months after 5th April. The CWU have totally failed to take this into account.

You did 18 days of strikes? Not 1 of the strike days fell on your day off? That’s remarkable.

You're right not 1 fell on my day off cos I don't have a day off, 1 week in 6 and not 1 strike fell on my week off.
Back to the point I was employed for 2 months so should have that Back pay & as I did strikes I should have lump sum. How about a rethink on this CWU

Did we not have strike days on consecutive weeks in December? If your 1 week off in 6 and no annual leave in December you surely had a strike day on your day off, or am I missing something?

I wonder if, legally, Royal Mail can withdraw the pay increase to those who were working in April but have since left. I would email Payroll/HR requesting the increase for period you were employed with them. This same thing happened to my wife (not Royal Mail) and she just emailed her payroll office and was paid the increase due. So worth a try.

Royal Mail will pay anything due with regards to the payrise (not the £500 lump sum) to anyone who has left after 1st April but it is up to those individuals to make a claim.

As far as the escrow money is concerned although it was managed by the trustees that was simply an administrative move, it was never part of any pension scheme and therefore wouldn't be payable to ex-employees.

It was really just a lump of Royal Mail's money sitting in an escrow account.

Why do managers get bonuses at all considering they've managed the business into a dead end?

The truth is I couldn't care less, every week they're getting money they don't deserve, this is just another example.

Yes you are missing something. ..the polnt of my post. If you read it properly i am asking about backpay.
