ROYAL mail are handing Warrington a new £1.5million sorting office.

The development at the site in Lingley Green is part of a £300million deal over four years with Mclaren Construction.

And the new mail centre will be the first site to be built under the agreement.

The sorting office is being constructed on Orion Boulevard, which was previously home to the regional distribution centre.

Work is due to finish next spring.

Mclaren plan to refurbish and rebuild post offices across the country in the multi-million pound project.

Between £40 and £50 million will be spent each year on the project nationwide, with £51million allocated to the north west by the new deal.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “ The investment programme is designed to secure the long-term future of the business in the region.

“As part of this programme, processing work will transfer from Crewe and Liverpool to a new mail centre in Warrington.

"The regional distribution centre is moving on a phased basis to the new site at Winwick Quay."
