Bristol outhouse ?

Post by drewmann »

Hi all,

I work at Dorset mail centre on Earlies, Last Friday the 9th of October, i noticed our 2nd class flats ( 11 yorks in total ) in the warehouse with a note on saying for the attention of our weekend manager now at this Bristol outhouse, when i went and asked our early shift manager what was all this about, as i knew Bristol mail centre staff were on industrial action,( they would normally take our 2nd class flats and put though their flat sorting machine which runs a bh/dt inward sort) i was answered in a very confrontational manner by the mail centre manager who was in the early shift managers office.

Her answer and the manner in which she answered was amazing, i had asked a reasonable question about peoples mail being sent to a outhouse staffed by royal mail casuals and agengcy staff with very little or no experience at all, her justification of this was as staff at Bristol mail centre were on strike and that no staff in our mail centre wanted overtime to do this work ( a nonsense by the way)she was sending it to this outhouse and then went on to imply that it was my fault and my unions fault for this, and asked me if i had been involved in the last strike at our mail centre( which i told her yes and didn't see any relevance for her question)

I'm still amazed by her attitude and i'm not going to leave the matter, i have worked for Royal mail for 19 years at 3 different mail centres and have never seen such bad managment, that work should have stayed with us and been treated the way in which people and business in our area had paid for, as it had done in previous actions at Bristol, i also found it amazing and bizarre that we had taken work from south london and shipped out our own work? ( not very modern and efficient of our management in a business sense is it)

I think that this was done so that the causals and agency staff at bristol could get a bit of practice at sorting flats for future strike action,i thought these out houses were for christmas only and for packets only? this seems to me to be a deliberate attempt by royal mail to make no real attempt having a negotiated end to this dispute.

I would welcome and look forward to your comments and views on the above.

Andy

Work from Mount Pleasant has been sent to a warehouse in Dartford (Outhouse) for at least 6 weeks now.
They are doing this so that we have to process the backlog from SW London.
