East London Mail Centre Punishment

Post by falstaff »

Over the last 2 and 1/2 months the members at the East London Mail cnetre have found themselves the subject of bullying management which this week on Monday resulted in 29 night shift drivers being taken off of pay and although the drivers were threaten with allsorts they continued to work.
When some of these drivers returned to the Mail centre on Tuesday evening to perform S/A they were told that they were not allowed, much to the shock of some of these Drivers as they had not been told the previous evening that they were off pay.
This issue was resolve with the assistance of a trade union rep only for the drivers to find that when they attended for duty and tried to get on with their work 15 of them were taken off pay. once again they continued to do their work.
no doubt tonight when these drivers go into that hell hole they will find themselves with a dicision to make do they continue to work for nothing and try to keep it legal?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO

The stopping of pay for part days is illegal and RM will lose any case brought against it is the opinion I have had from a legal friend. They are just trying bullying tactics knowing full well it takes months to get this into a court and they will just rollover and play daft when it gets there. It time the union took out some sort of injunction stopping them from this sort of intimidation or at least give some positive advice.

Do not give in to bullying, stick together and we can and will win
I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.

But will our thick union know that its illegal? no doubt royal mail will get what they want again from all this and the union wont even try and fight this or use this as a weopon in negotians (i would, dog eat dog and do what it takes to get the right result)

Yes they know it's unlawful (not illegal - it's not a criminal offence), and so does Royal Mail.
The CWU took RM to an Employment Tribunal over members in Wimbledon not being paid
during the 2007 dispute, but it took 12 months to be heard, and RM were ordered to pay up.
RM know that their action is unlawful but they will do it to intimidate and stress people,
knowing it will take a year to go to an ET.

No they will lose at an ET.
And if the members stay strong and united they can support each other and those who are feeling stressed or worried.
The members at Wimbledon did that in 2007, with the backing of the CWU.

unfortunately i dont feel we are getting that strong a message from our union, like they just expect us to stay strong. I do agree tho we have to hang in there and win this i just dont want to happen what happened last time. Can things ever go back to normal now?

What is normal - as things were before the EA and IA ? I doubt it.
Things have changed and will continue to.
The question is will we have any say in that or will RM just do whatever they want.

And that's why we are taking Industrial Action locally, and are ballotting nationally.

Baldrick the point im trying to make is to some extent when this is all over and we win, when we go back after why wont they say, well you were working this way before so why cant you carry on. What with agreeing to the 2007 pay and modernisation didnt we agree to flexability?

What im saying is i think its all a bit vague and thats where they might have us.

I still think before we should of mstayed out longer and got a better deal
