I am assuming here that you are trying to make a connection between validating your jobs and capitalist exploitation. If so, then yet, another poster takes the arguement to an extreme in order to gain a so called triumph. If not I apologise, I don't often have anyone agreeing with me. I realise the many weaknesses there are with collective action, yet I will still continue to be a part it. I understand the fruitless efforts of the sole employee to achieve reform also, yet I will continue to try
Actually, I agree with you.
It's more apparent than ever that RM is no longer a job for life, nor that length of time employed is a guarantee of getting/keeping the job you have or want.
The time is coming when those operators who do show aptitude or interest will be employed, and the complete wasters/amateur saboteurs/love-lorn/ bone-idle/disinterested will go.
To quote "I don't give two f**ks mate, I stand here for a shift, do as little as possible and go home. Who cares?"
Well, I do, and the idea that all his/her work colleagues think the same, is insulting to those who try (ie the vast majority).
If it's so bad or boring, why don't you leave and do something more interesting, or is that just too obvious?
I suppose because most of us don't try to make ouselves seem or sound important!

that's RM all the way along, bottom to the top, what sort of system has a management structure for the benefit of it's own managers instead of dare I say it -running things . Bit like New Liebour with the NHS , all those managers in the middle who can't &don't manage .
Image Cartoons by ANDY DAVEY , Hewitt pictures from C4 BLOG & BEAU BO D'OR& it's a D not a R! , no surprise these days to find AL's a member

Ah Tommo, I was hoping you'd come back for another go.
Remember your hissy fit over "all operators must be TPM trained" and all that jazz?
Funnily enough, my MC today started over 50 casuals.
"Bit early for Xmas casuals, innit?" the regular staff asked.
"Insurance" was the reply "in case you lot go on strike in the lead in, and if you don't, we still have them here for Xmas pressure and beyond".
Funny thing is, they were running the machines today after receiving all the training they were going to get, and according to the latest training brief dated August 07 and available on the Intranet, all they were required to be told was how to start and stop it, and position of the E stops (sorry Belial, tech term again).

So much for TPM training, and looks like RM has a contingency plan should we go on strike again.

Semacsorter, the machine sorts the items and comparing it's figures to that of manual sorter is utter nonsense. How many manual items can a machine sort? This is besides the point. Please take note here Semacsorter, I have never disputed the IMP's performance nor have I disputed TPM payments. I will stand by what I said with regards to what I witnessed. If I can see what went on in one night, then senior management, whom I doubt are IMP/TPM trained and frankly don't care about the colour of the lights on an IMP, can see it too and will eventually act on it. Wether or not you accept my discription is irrelavent, especially to me. I have merely listed what I saw. I would also say, I find your analogy with regards to the gatehouse highly amusing as, ironically, the gatehouse keeper in my MC has been replaced with a computerised swipe card system. Perhaps an omen!
As for whoever it was you asked, are they really going to advise you that RM safety procedures (I can't say SSoW, as Belial doesn't like it) are wrong or unnecessary for thier job or yours?
Why, you might go on some public forum and spill the beans, and get some poor sod's finger mangled, so best to play safe and stick with the "right way".
When will you give it up Tman. I think if you read Biggins post he states it was two Engineers who told him. The fact of the matter is that you, as a legally termed competent, are not above or beyond RM H&S. The sentence that started this was:
I would say that myself and only one other always press the blue stops when clearing a jam and when people notice you doing this they look at you as if you are crazy, the other main offenders of this are the engineers, one told me only the other week that because he was an engineer he was exempt from this rule, which is utter shite.
That question is now answered. I am starting to actually believe this is more about your ego than, actually wether or not you are supposed to press the blue button.
The time is coming when those operators who do show aptitude or interest will be employed, and the complete wasters/amateur saboteurs/love-lorn/ bone-idle/disinterested will go.
Tman you are wrong. Its the staff with the least seniority who will go.

Last week we had an exhibition at my MC, showing how RM saw how things would be in 2011.
One exhibit was a photo line up of various RM employees, with handsets attached to each one on which you could hear how they thought of their job in 2011.
The MC WAM (Work Area Manager) says how she has more time to 'motivate' her staff now that there are "TWICE AS MANY MANAGERS"!!!!
So RM are intending to cut 40,000 jobs but double the number of managers! [/i]

You are free to believe that should you so wish, but my point remains the same. Likewise asking two other individuals (and without knowing the circumstances or how the question was worded) is not confirmation either. Should someone ask me something similar, I would always play safe and state the company line too. Who wouldn't?

Under the current way of working, but seniority (other than for leave selection and walks) is dying out.

No, thankfully, and I rather doubt you are either.

I spoke to 2 engineers whom i'm gud friends with. They wer very open and i didnt mention this forum besides no one presses the buttons anyway. We got talking about it as 1 engineer commented i must be the only operator in the office who presses the blue stops. Your argument is clearly because u see urself above posties. In my office the arrogant attitude of engineers and the low opinion they hav of operators is rife. They act as tho u r scum of the earth wen u get them for a fault. It can be infuriating as sum of them are the most gormless thick morons i hav ever met.

What kind of imp are you on semacsorter? I think you meant buttons...
Remember, the way you do you job will affect colleagues for years to come - if you cut corners to do it quick, they will be expected to as well....and then RM will add extra work to fill the gaps.
