Re: LTB 406/20 - Mail Centre Processing - Alphanumeric Barcoding
TPTB at our mail centre have finally realised that no-one at the DOs is amending incorrect AN codes on missorts, so they have now started taking a note of the addresses on packets that arrive with incorrect AN numbers and “updating these on the system”, so we are told. There is quite a substantial number of cases. Often this isn’t picked up until these items come back from the wrong DO, but staff are also told to pull out these items while processing if they notice an anomaly. Many staff are still in the habit of blindly sorting by AN number (as they were previously told to do) but hopefully we will see a reduction in these AN errors going forward.

Don't know if everywhere would see a reduction in errors, depends if the new hub sorts on AN numbers if present. If it's a direct selection on the machine then unless the DO corrects the AN number, they'll forever get a missort come back to them until they change the An number. I don't now if the MCs in an area covered by the new hub deal with the missorts or if they get sent directly back to the hubLockardian wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 08:56TPTB at our mail centre have finally realised that no-one at the DOs is amending incorrect AN codes on missorts, so they have now started taking a note of the addresses on packets that arrive with incorrect AN numbers and “updating these on the system”, so we are told.
