The distribution / Collections team can now take any staff from the entire mail centre - anybody that can drive a lorry.
They wouldn't be able to do that locally, processing doesn't have enough staff as it is
I'm seeing people from the early shift doing it after their shift, people cancelling processing SA to work for collections and my manager has been asked to drive rather than manage in processing. I questioned it and he said the distribution manager can take whoever he wants as SDL has said ok due to driver shortage.
Our mech section can struggle for staff some days as it is. If distribution start nicking staff from the mech then we'll end up having to downgrade to walk sort instead of sequencing, maybe even having to just send some batches as manual. You can count on one hand the number of non SD locker staff who are SD locker trained on shift.
I don't think it's going to be too long before you start getting MCs failing shifts due to distribution nicking staff from processing
Yep can see weekends failing - walked into the office tonight to see two managers running two CSS machines today. So won't take much.
If you've got enough iLSM/IMP staff then they could do some of your sequencing on the iLSMs/IMPs.
DOs will eventually feel the fallout when MCs start to have to send mail that would be sequenced as either walk sort or manual, they'll need more staff in on the IPS. It's probably going to be either that or we make all dispatch times to DOs at least an hour later

Could do if suitable LMS plans are available. I think LMS has been frowned on nationally for a while, not as efficient on man-hours.
It's clearly been strategy for a few years now that times slip back a bit each network review; they're still chasing the "buy this evening, get it tomorrow T24" market so RDCs put back their acceptance deadlines based on "customer demand," vehicles leave later, MCs get it later and struggle to get it out. Once they've had sufficient times when it hasn't then they'll roll MC hours back 30min or 60min and that'll force the same to happen in deliveries.

We have to sometimes run some sequenicng through our iLSMs, it's either that or send some batches to DOs as manual.
I reckon it's only a matter of time before absolutely every IMP and iLSM has anything to do with sequencing and walk sorting removed from it. They'll still need to keep the ability to use the green cards on an iLSM though in case for example a iLSM has to say quickly switch from 2C to 1C
