When I was in the other office i started at on the south coast , this walk I did would come over the hills and I would see the sunrise and below was the harbour.
Tying up the bags with string so you could get the bags into the lift for the last train
Driving the security van along the seaside and usually the guys with me, eying the girls up, and stopping for an ice cream
A rural delivery walking along the coast/channell on a hot sunny day and having me sandwiches at the top of this hill and looking out to sea, on a cold windy day was another thing, all of this in the 90.s
Now on a very flat cycle delivery in a suburb and managment just bullies how things change

TV detector van driving (usually lasted 4-6 weeks) there were only 16 vans in the country and they used to move around the large offices, then you went back on normal postman driving duties. Called (flag flying) when you just drove round a targeted area to be seen, sat parked up on roundabouts, shopping areas etc, even managed to get tv on the monitor in the back on one van! Sometimes had to drive some to##er around to a list of addresses where he would knock doors and get lots of abuse, I remember people giving me lots of hand signals too though, unfortunately/fortunately my ex-girlfriend at the time was at home watching tv when one of the other vans driven by one of my mates paid a visit resulting in a £100 fine for her!

No wonder we were heading for bankruptcy . Many can't see how this would have meant redundancies had we gone on like this. At the end of the day an honest days work for an honest days pay. Tea and toast at mummy's then.DirtyHarry wrote:Every walk I ever did pre-2003, it was an all-round fantastic job to have then.

Coding in the mail centre. Sat on a comfy seat in an air-conditioned office. Not a lot to do in the afternoon, so quizzes took priority. The panic on the managers face when they had to code the bank out, offering you an hours overtime for ten minutes. Then Mdec's arrived and that was it.

Good old days indeed!
