holiday entitlement

Hi guys I just started in the company and when I read the situation vacants ads I saw that the holiday entitlement is 4 and a hlaf weeks for the first five years...so my question is how much more do you get after the five year period...???
I know I am jumping the gun but I just think that giving someone half a weeks holoday seems daft.

On entry - Four and a half weeks.
After 5 years - Four weeks and 3.5 days.
After 15 years - Five weeks and 1 day.
after 20 years - Six weeks.

You can also purchase additional leave to make it up to six weeks. Deductions are made weekly from your pay if you want to do that.

Yes it comes off your 'Gross' pay.

For 20 years mate i think you have got it wrong, I think its 5 weeks and 3 days and its 6 weeks after 25 years. I be in 21 years this may and i will check this in the morning.

It's definitely six weeks after 20 years mate - Way Forward, Section 4. Annual leave, Paragraph 2, Leave Entitlements.
I think you are thinking of the annual leave increments before the Way Forward Agreement 2000.

Well you can take the odd two days as odd days or added on to full weeks.
Don't know how the odd half day works - I suppose it gets carried on to the next year to make a full day every second year. That's what they used to do with the half day we used to get for Maundy Thursday.
They did away with that, together with the Xmas Priviledge Day which we used to be able to take on Christmas Eve
or the day after Boxing Day, and the day we got for the Queen's Birthday as part of the Way Forward.
They were added on to the 4 weeks basic annual leave entitlement, so now new starters get 4 and a half weeks leave.

And I think England and Wales should get the same amount of Bank Holidays as you guys in Northern Ireland - two days more than us.
And Scotland gets one more day than us.
I believe we get the lowest number of Public Holidays in the whole of Europe.
