Hi everyone,
I just passed the security checks for a job as a network & collections driver and am just waiting on a start date etc. Three month fixed term contract but that seems par for the course these days. The collections manager and DOM at the interview told me that they're covering 2 duties for union staff and one is now gone up to national level and the other just re-elected so they expect at least 2 years work for me, extending or offering new contracts subject to requirements at the end of each 3 month period. Fingers crossed .....
I worked for Royal Mail as a reserve (mainly delivery duties but also did collections and night shift sorting) from 1990 to 1996 Apart from the switch to these fixed term contracts, I wonder what else has changed (for better or worse!) in the time I've been away?

I worked for Tesco Distribution for 13 of those 18 years. I can guarantee the management at Royal Mail won't be any worse than what I've been used to!!!
My eyes are wide open and I'm prepared for the worst already, but a job's a job. Many of the posties who've been in Royal Mail just don't realise how bad things have gotten over the last 6 years in the outside world.... management bully boy tactics and impossible to achieve targets are the norm out there.

Question to the RMC masses,doesn't his previous 6 years service get added to his holiday entitlement?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Unfortunately that's how it is in Royal Mail too now.
