Hi all,

Yesterday got confirmation of a start date, I'm on welcome day on Tuesday and start in local office on Wednesday. Part time 24 hours per week.

I have worked in the Security industry for the last 30 years, rising to the grand level of Managment. For the last 2 years i've been in charge of 100 officers and 4 supervisors, but now have realised at the age of 51 it was time for a change.

The part time hours sound great as I have a 3 and half year old daughter (very unexpected but welcome) and want to spend more time with her and my wife.

My main question is "What I'm I letting myself in for, there seems to be a lot of negitivity on this forum"

Also what sort of patern will I be working as I have been told 24 hours, 0900 - 1500 daily. But don't understand how this will work.

Each day you'll be in charge of about 1000 letters and 40 parcels takes a bit of getting used to but not a bad job after the first few weeks if you're physically fit enough.
Don't come in early take your break and don't work beyond your time .
And join the CWU.

If you come from a management background in the private sector you may be in for a shock when you see what sometimes passes for it in this game. Ignore the negativity but be prepared for a tough couple of months, It's a physical job and the level of training and support is quite frankly laughable in most cases.

Guess you could work to your set hours but I was on a 25hour 5day contract and started 7weeks ago but shortest week ive worked so far is 34hours. But in my situation I prefer that!

I have been in since February and have worked on average 13 hrs over my 27 hrs contract every week follow the advice on here claim every minute and don't work for nothing
