Annual leave for wedding

Hello everyone. I've a query about annual leave, which I hope one of you may be able to help me with.

I'm planning on getting married in spring next year and I’ve applied for the leave as per the process in my office. Due to circumstances which involve compassionate grounds, we need to get married within the next 6 to 7 months. My fiancé and I have already booked a date and time for the registrar and will be booking a venue in the very near future.

The leave forms haven’t been dealt with yet, so nobody knows who’s got what dates. What worries me is what if I’m refused the leave? I’ve booked a whole week to ensure I get the date I want (a Saturday) because in our office we have to choose whole weeks on the first signing. I’ve been advised that if I don’t get the dates I want I may be able to swap with a colleague if they’re willing.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Having searched the forums I’ve seen there are references to marriage leave, but does this still exist?

From the SPECIAL LEAVE GUIDE

This guide aims to clarify the issues surrounding allocation of Special Leave A (paid) and C (unpaid). It should be noted that this document is a guide only and if further clarity is required you should contact HRSC.
Special Leave forms should be fully completed and signed by line managers. Forms that are left blank or use the term “urgent domestic distress” or “domestic” are unacceptable. Managers should investigate the reason for the request and this should be reflected on the form.

MARRIAGE/REGISTRATION OF CIVIL PARTNERSHIP
LEAVE : Special Leave A or Annual Leave :
3 to 5 days paid leave depending on annual leave entitlement:· 3 days if leave entitlement is 6 weeks.· 4 days if leave entitlement is 5 weeks 3 days.·
5 days if leave entitlement is 5 weeks.

So if you don't get the holiday that you've requested, you should be able to get the time off through Special Leave.
