Hi all
I have applied for a job as a postman in Paisley, Scotland.
It would be on a permanent contract but part time hours (just under 28 hrs).
I am currently working 39 hrs a week and would be dropping hours to take the job, but i have been told that Paisley is one of the bigger depots around my area and that there should be plenty of overtime there.
Do the bigger depots have lots of overtime and everybody gets some overtime, or is it the long term employees that get the overtime and the newer recruits only get a little.
Is there quiet times during a year when the overtime would be limited ?
Why are all the contracts i see advertised: part time, temporary, casual, etc, do Royal Mail not employ anybody on a full time contract ?
Sorry for all the questions.

Re: Overtime
SA is a form of scheduled overtime, Docket is RM slang for overtime.AndrewC wrote:So there should be plenty of overtime for people in bigger sorting offices.

Initially yes, long term difficult to say with certainty but there will be pressure to reduce numbers.AndrewC wrote:Do you think jobs will be alright when Royal Mail is privatised ?

An open ended question if there was ever one. To be honest your best looking through the privatisation threads to get an idea, because as sure as eggs are eggs no one knows with any certainty what is going to happen, it's all conjecture based on politics and experience.
