Angard Casual seeking Part time Contract??

Post by Cherry Cigar »

Hi all! Think were all in the same boat? At least maybe a life raft?
Been an Angard Casual worker for over a year now, mostly Delivery and have realised the great pressure of work load and speed this job really intails, this cant be learnt over night, but comes from years of experience and perserverance, I have work with lots of interesting people over the year and have been put in awkward circumstances some of the time when royal mail staff cannot cover either due too cutting off or due too genuine illness. I have gained quite a reputation for myself the past year that I always finish a duty and have been left out alone quite a few times to finish or even going back to an office i'm working at to complete another one.
When I started I thought that I love to be a postie, prove myself and get some kind of contract, not so easy as I have found out, Have applied quite a few times and pass all the tests but to no avail, managers know me and the dom but however how much I try they say i'm too slow, do the job properly, but too slow. I'm honestly 50% 20-30 mins out either on the prep or sometimes on the round. Some managers that I wont speak off have deliberatly put me in the deep end lately too see if I can cope with the pressure to be employed (Ijust know!) I have not! And this is at a place where they play it too the book, new revision and all, I just make silly mistakes because of this! I'm giving it 100% anyway!
I have worked at a lot of places in my life and coped perfectly well, most days I struggle sometimes even if I know a duty, if I go somewhere else where they haven't had these new revisions I can cope, strange that?? Now I have reached the conclusion that do I really want to be a postie? Yes, but it's the time frame, I am getting so frustrated that I'm cutting the mustard in most departments, but not so much on the speed, god my backs hurting, but it's keeping me employed and just fast enough too keep me regurally employed as a casual, I have a job, so I cant moan! But I honestly dont know where this angle is getting me? Long term employment as a casual or a short term contract and should I take it if offered? It's a bit of an headache and what the right thing is to do, my partner works also and they (the royal mail) would probably want me to be available everyday, I dont think I could do that, but that's the impression I get they want me too say A 25 hour contract definetly more hours then it specifies and available everyday, dont these adminstrators realise that we have partners that work and have too look after our children, it seems to get a new job in the royal mail today it is not enough too work hard and complete you have too work too time every day and if it's possible or not and chuck your soul in for good measure, I'm not sure I'm entirly happy about doing this? And I really admire you guys that have been doing this jobs years and years, please dont give up your pride and your soul my advice "Royal mail cant have your soul also" I have worked at other depots that have not had the new revisions I know the difference you actually got time to eat your sandwich and have a coffee before you go out for 3-5 hrs Absolutly ridicolous! My personal opinion is ok they need revisions to make more profit and make it more efficient, ok , but dont you think this is a big step too far! It put's too much pressure on the individual employee too be more cost effective, but doe's not mean you get less complaints or get a better job done, it actually doe's the opposite making things more tighter time wise to save money and put's more pressure on the hard working experience staff which Royal Mail has got. The actual heart of the Royal mail, they push it any more it's going into cardiac arrest, what a shame, it seems no one really cares about it's long term future only finacially, which is a shame for a national instutution which supports this country!

P.S Anyone wrote to the queen about this? Were still wearing the logo!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
