Change over 4 years

Post by robnant »

I joined Royal Mail 4 years ago. After 1 week's "training", on my 1st full "Solo" day, I was given a walk, told to prep it because no-one else had done it, & get it all delivered. I left the office at 11.45 & didn't finish until 5.30PM. No-one said I was able to put in for overtime! This was in November, so I finished in total darkness.

Anyway, back to the subject.

Even then, when I was floating between walks, I could finish for 2pm. Then they introduced "Summer Lapsing" 1 day a week. Then we started to do lapsing on a Saturday. Soon, Lapsing was - and still is - every day. Now we have Park & Loop.

Trying to get 2 people to do 2 walks in a shorter space of time is impossible. The walks are set up for 1 person; how to bag up, where to park etc. Now, with park & Loop, we don't know from 1 day to the next, which colleague we will be with etc. We also have to take out all the Specials, Tracked Items & large parcels, as well as the packets we would take out before Park & Loop started.

I start at 6.40 and since this scheme was introduced, have yet to finish before 3.30. Talk about knackered! So, all in all, we are doing 2 walks, split between 2 people who are still unsure of things, we are doing lapsing EVERY day, we still do Door to Doors and are now doing the job the Drivers used to do.

Talk about getting their money's worth!

PS Thanks a bunch for the Share Scheme which never got off the ground. As for the £600 Bonus, will we get it before the London Olympics?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Its all happening because you let it, in one Office the DOM refusing to pay overtime for extending on park & loop, the staff are now talking mass culling and working to their time,
the sh1t really has hit the fan when it comes to getting everybody mobilised, this Office believe me used to ignore all the calls to do the job properly, with certain exceptions,
now they have experienced the consequences, they are all fired up ! especially when the expected £600 is going to be late coming in if ever, instead of the promised 6 weeks
after the changes was implemented.

Your Office need to grow a pair and do the job as it should be done, 100% cull, make the Bosses take the excess.

WOW I will just reel you in before telling you I was being sarcastic in my first post, 21 service and I have seen it all so in answer to your above post I can tell you I agree whole heartedly with you but even if everybody had done their job properly drastic cuts would still have been made.

I'll let you off the hook for now :wave

Drastic cuts would be made more difficult for them to implement :Very Happy the idea behind doing the job properly as per (their) specifications, is to make it easier for yourself and not chasing time, which in the long term makes it harder for you,

In doing so we can show them a happy and contented workforce managing their workload in a effective stress free manner :wave

I can speak fluent sarcasm the job trains me well

Hi

What is park and loop?

Is it driving your own vehicle (if you've got one) to one end of a street and delivering post?

Or parking and locking one of those big boxes on wheels?

I know this sounds naive but I'm not a postie but I've always wanted to be one. Although being drenched to the skin on a bad low pressure day sounds pretty knaff.

I was a Parkie once so I've done me time in all sorts of weather.

Both systems will be used when an office changes its Delivery methods.

Rounds starting within 1 mile of the office will use a High Capacity Trolley. Most of the others will use a park and loop method of delivery which is 2 posties looping back to the same vehicle.

so .... you know how it works ... if you know you won't finish on time then you bring it back . SIMPLES . then the manager has to sort it out . if you are a member of the union then you know this is well within your rights and if you aren't then why not ? anyhows it's YOUR fault you're being abused - stand up for yourself and don't take any s**t. you know it makes sense .......
