Hello/Postman jobs

Post by zamamoosh »

Hi, just joined as possibly facing redundancy and like the idea of being a postman. Early finishes will be handy for getting my daughter after school when she starts next year, and I can't think of a job that sounds better tbh. But, I just read some of the 'why you joined the Royal Mail' thread, which didn't paint a very good picture. However, it may well seem worse to longstanding members of staff (who remember what it was like in the good old days) than new staff? Anyway, what's it like? Pay? Hours etc and what's the best way to get a job in the first place? According to Royal mail website there's none available in my area (Preston) and all the ones I can find in other areas are temporary and part time.
Cheers all.

to be honest, you would only get on a temp (12/13 week) rolling part time contract.
usually between 20 and 25 hours a week.
our finishing times are getting later, the last letter is between 3pm and 4pm (sometimes later but sometimes earlier).
though there are many on here moaning, including myself :Very Happy however we do still enjoy some good benefits that other companies do not offer, sick pay, annual leave etc.
the job on the whole is a lot harder now and it is very physically demanding

keep on checking the website if your serious about joining but i wouldnt leave a job to start with RM, unless it was a very bad one anyway .
best of luck.

Cheers Beeswax. It's more a case of having something to go to if I get made redundant. Finishing in time for picking up from school is one of the things that attracted me to the RM though, shame if that changes.
