I have been offered a 20hr week contract until feb 11 and was wondering, is this normal procedure for new employees , 3 month contract? is there chance of staying on? and what are the chances of getting more hours than 20???

Very normal these days. Every office is different. There may be plenty of overtime going, but don't think they will increase the contracted hours, less holiday/sick pay they need to pay you when the time comes.

You get paid for your basic hours at the end of the first week. Money should be in your bank on the Friday. You might get your wage slip on the Thursday, but more likely on the Friday.
Any overtime is paid a week in arrears.
