Hi shaz im working through stike but I aint a scab

My Name is Shaz and I work in the north west.

The thing that i get annoyed about is that since my husband passed away in a crash at 33 I have 3 Kids to support and dont get Much money and cant afford to give strike dont care what people think the only concern I have is to my kids and No-one else.
The main Thing is that in our office most of the people said that they only voved yes cos it was the summer and that they could do with a few days off do these people not live in reality.My Late Hubby worked in Pit in Yorkshire in the week and I only saw him at weekends so we as posties are lucky in the respect that at least they see there loved ones every day.Also i found that the union rep was trying to get people to vote yes.He moaned and ran around the office when I voted No which at this moment I have an issue with as I want him removed as the rep cos people are entitled to there own opinions,Anyway as I said I have only a couple of quid over once Rent,Bills, food,clothes for the kids and I am so poor that i wear my uniform Most of the timeto save myself from Buying clothes iF THE UNION WILL GUARENTEE THAT THEY WILL PAY MY BANK CHARGES AND MAKE SURE THAT MY KIDS HAVE FOOD ON THE TABLE COUNT ME IN BUT OTHERWISE IM WORKING sorry but as i said my 3 boys are my life and thats the vital thing to me.Please reply telling me why the strike is more importent than my family.and i will tell you 10000000 reasonrt,sorry if dont reply stright away but dont own a computer so in the library

If Royal Mail could guarantee us a living wage, I don't think any of us would have felt any need to consider going on strike.They're the problem, not the union.

If her position is as she has described then I have sympathy with her position and stance. Don't agree with it but I can sympathise with it. Is there anything the union could do to help those in this sort of position if we do go on strike.

Family first is not too bad an argument pity Royal Mail and Later starts will mean less chance for this.

Sorry to hear about your loss Shaz.. I know this must be a hard time for u but it will get harder IF RM bring there ways in!!! FACT no man woman or right minded person wants to strike!!!! But if u are in the union thais alone says something about the way u feel inside and ur morals... As I WWFW SAID ITS RM and not the union thats the problem!! Yes u have your right to vote no and the reason u did is because the thought of the lack of £££ that will come into the house when on strike scares u and rightly so. Your kids come first... BUT when RM dismantle bit by bit the job u earn your £ you will have less than u have now with inflation and a 2.5% pay rise so work it out .... I feel for you and any one struggling as most of us do.... But together we can make a difference!!!!


Ur Union rep... IF he was out of order then do what u must but remember his job is a very hard one and under lots of pressure much like u at home must b!!!! so his actions sometimes might be wrong.. We all make mistakes!! and wrong choices just please dont make the mistake and cross the picket!!!! There must be help down the C.A.B (citizens advice)....???? DSS??? U deserve more!!! Thats the labour goverment for ya!!! speak a good gane but come up with feck all!!! sorry but that true!!!

while i have every sympathy for u shaz none of us can afford to strike. i have kids to support too and they are the reason i voted yes. people who choose not to strike will happily take the pay rise achieved through others hardship. don't let royal mailwalk all over us

Hi Shaz - I know you face a difficult situation but you must do your best to be part of what we now face - our solidarity will shorten this conflict not lengthen it and every weakness we show to the management will be exploited, who knows - you may end up with terms of employment that deprive your family even more and with only a broken union to give ineffectual support.

I joined Royal Mail a little before the last national strike from a business that had poor union representation with which I had no involvement. I joined CWU and dutifully followed the crowd into the industrial dispute. As a 24 hour AG at the time with 2 young children and a wife also in part time work I found the weekly loss of money too difficult and after striking for 6 of the 8 weeks I went back in. Although some members of the staff treated me badly despite my having given as much as I could, many were understanding and my main problem was that no one from the union had ever asked during the strike whether I was coping with it.

I felt at the time that the union had not made an effort to help me but have realised over the years since, that the union does much more by way of support for it's members than I had given it credit for and can only continue to do that if we give it support in return no matter how painful.

Be strong Shaz and make the best effort you can to break this ignorant and unfeeling grip that we are now in - however little you do - as far as I am concerned it will be your best and I for one will thank you for it.

And the anti-trade union laws that make secondary picketing illegal so other workers in other industries can't go out on support. Not very 'democratic' is it? And all of the capitalist parties run the same line.
