I should have gone for "Sore back" lol.
I'm a former postie of 2 years. I left in September to do some traveling, but knowing my bad luck I'll be back walking the streets and avoiding dogs before too long.
Are the union trying to go on strike again? It's a shame we didn't last summer when RM were being arses by not negotiating the pay increase and looking to cut jobs with the new sorting machines.

Hello Dave and welcome.
Thinking of going back eh?Things have changed a bit, especially in London.
We have these cluster reserves now, what a nightmare job that is.
They have to wait by the Phone at home in the morning for where they have to go.
They could be sent to any office in their designated area.
Some of them aint finishing till 3-4ish!!

As for a National strike, yeah right, like we'd do that to get things done.

Cluster reserves eh? Ooh, think I'll give that a miss then. I used to hate not knowing what walk I'll be on from day to day, let alone which office they'll send me to.
Though when I first started out I was sent to a few neighbouring offices for odd days. It was an absolute pain, especially because I can't drive. One manager gave me a lift home and another had to give me bus fare.
On both occasions though I cut off at 12:45, even though I had only done three bags out of seven for one of the offices. That was the last time they sent me to that office :dance hehe

It's not all clusters though, you may get lucky and get a full time post.
Lads i know that have came back, went and saw their old Manager, had a chat with them and they sorted things out,
at the end of the day if you was an allright Postie they'll try and get you back in if there's vacancies.
Worth a try if you're thinking of another 'stretch' in the job.

Well the boss did say I could go back any time I wanted, so I guess that's something.
Just as I left one of my mates joined RM. It seems the job has changed so much since I left in the summer.
I can remember starting in june '04, the cage was always open so as soon as you bagged up you were free to go. No one gave a monkeys about bag weights, no one even checked the frames to see if you were taking out all the mail.
I would be out by 7am most days and pretty much always finished by 11am. A couple of times I was finished at 9am, and I was the slow new guy too!
Eventually the management were sick of everyone making up so much time and things just became progessively worse.
Just before I left, the management weren't even making up excuses as to why they weren't opening the cage and letting us leave the office. We'd all be queing up to go for sometimes a good hour or so. The guys in the cage had finished sorting out the specials long ago and were as annoyed as us with all the waiting around.

I can't be the only postman who wished their managers would all die of coffee related heart attacks? hehe
