Image MasterBloggins, your reasoning seems to be that because you have worked in the past for a pittance, in the PITS, (metaphorically speaking) and you are now working in the nirvana that is RM, you will put up with whatever changes to your conditions and workpractices RM will impose upon you, for the sake of this fantastic renumeration you are now in receipt of. At what point of the race to the bottom that 'Big Al' & 'lil ad' are now engaged in, considering that you have already mentioned your concern for the customer/family/friends, will you decide that enough is enough? I take it you don't mind the daily barrage of lies, deceit, and intimidation used by management to get the less determined or inexpierienced of us to work over and above our contracts? Do you have any principles or is the mighty dollar all that matters?Image--------A KWESTIONING KWAKImage

Strike is a Strikeout for all!!!

Post by MasterBloggins »

I know people who work part time for Royal Mail who take home more than some of my full time working friends and family.

And if I was given a chance of still working for Royal Mail, but less hours and still taking home more than friends and family who work longer hours in a depressing, underpaid job, then I'll stick with Royal Mail.

I've worked pubs, supermarkets, production facilities, indoors, outdoors, I've done a few different management roles for several different companies and every one of those jobs had me working harder and working longer hours for less money and more stress. Some of the working conditions I’ve endured would literally make people physically sick. Most of my previous jobs depressed me at the thought of having to spend yet another laborious shift in what ever hell whole it was. I don't get that working for Royal Mail. I think it's great. I'm paid more than I've ever be paid, my hours are good, the job isn't stressful, in fact I can have a good laugh with my colleagues, but now I fear that could all come to an end. Who do I blame? Well I don't blame Adam Crozier, Allan Leighton or any of senior managers. They are no different to senior managers for any company. Well maybe they are different, because they have to have something to do with the good pay and favourable working conditions.

What’s even more worrying about the strike action is a number of CWU Rep’s allegedly led people to believe that voting for industrial action was not voting for strike action and the CWU would explore every avenue of industrial action except strike action. I know several people who voted for industrial action because they didn’t believe it would involve a strike.

I do understand what the CWU and many of its members are saying, but at the end of the day, if the big bosses say we need to streamline Royal Mail, then Royal Mail will streamlined, but it would be streamline to a lesser degree and more favourably with employee and CWU support. Strike won’t make this process any better, it will make it worse and we will all lose. That is something I firmly believe.

I don't believe for a minute the senior management will back down on this, so I guess with strikes looming it's now just a question of when and how severely they do the streamlining. Strikes will definitely force less favourable changes that have greater negative impacts on us, the employee. And why is that? Because the strike will have a detrimental effect on how well Royal Mail can compete for business etc etc etc.

i still believe a work to rule would have been a better option, but the ballot was for a strike so a strike it is,as this is a royal mail postmans/womens forum thers no need to reiterate everything thats going on in the industry, we all know, or should know what has been banded about.
i firmly believe that mr lieghton and mr crozier WANT us to strike, why?, because they and this spineless goverment can then privatize the company, not only are they getting paid a massive wage for their head hunting skills(?) read the adam crozier profile when at the FA, but they are also undermining the royal family, its not the leighton mail, or the crozier mail, its the ROYAL MAIL, so could this goverment and leighton and crozier be accused of treason? just a thought.

I worked in some pretty bad jobs as well before I started in the Post Office which is why I have stayed in RM as long as I have. I am not having a go at you personally as I know there are a lot of people who think like you. But you should realise that whatever terms and conditions we have are because people have been prepared to stick together and fight for them. The bosses never gave us anything out of the goodness of their hearts. If you are not prepared to defend our terms and conditions they will deteriorate to those which you are glad to have escaped.
As for 'streamlining' - the CWU have always been been prepared to negotiate changes but the current top management (Leighton & Crozier) are not prepared to negotiate. They just want us to accept anything they want to do to us. This is 2007 not 1807, we are in a Union and we have a right to be heard, otherwise we will be ending up with the awful conditions you describe you have experienced in other jobs

Try working long shifts, for minimum wage, sloggin your guts out in smelly, dirty factories or stack shelves for a living at Morrisons. I earn more than anybody I know outside Royal Mail who isn't a manager and many of those people I earn more than work much harder, in much less favourable conditions than most of the Royal Mail workers I know.

"You talk about being brain washed. See how brain washed I am when your working in less than favourable working conditions, for less pay, for longer hours, with less beneifts."
I cant understand u bloggins???? You say you work for Royal Mail and your on a Full time contract.. Then you say in this line above, "you talk about being brain washed. See how brainwashed I am when YOUR working in less than favourable working conditions, for less pay, for longer hours, with less benefits." Why YOUR and not US????? Who are you????? Your Opinions seem come from someone who has never had H&B against them in a office buy management?? Never had there rites taken away from them by a lying manager who is only interested in Numbers and forgets H&S when it pleases them, Never been on the end of a grievence thru Management deliberately moving the goal posts and discriminated against?? Never had rites and wanted to keep them thru a UNION and UNITY thru togetherness of the WORKERS and not bowing down to the bullying tactics the RM use internally!!!!

We the workers WILL NOT SUFFER THIS... So where ever you come from. (job) If you had your way You would still be sending little kids up chimneys and feeding them gruel.. Bread and water... And would be so kind to let them sleep for a few hours before waking them again with a beating back to work.... You have your point of view but your alien to me and the TRUE WORKERS RITES AND CONDITIONS WE FOUGHT FOR AND EARNED!!!! THRU PEOPLE LAYING THERE LIVES DOWN FOR THE RITES YOU THROW DOWN LIKE THEY ARE POINTLESS LIVES LOST...

SHAME ON YOU.................. :so there :no no :d'oh!

HAVE TO AGREE MASTERBLOGGINS THAT ALL THE THINGS YOU LIKE SO MUCH ABOUT THE JOB HAVE BEEN FOUGHT FOR AND EARNED IN THE PAST BY THE UNION AND US GREEDY SARKY NAROW MINDED PEOPLE,WE KNOW JOBS ARE TO GO BUT IT IS THE WHEN AND WHY WE DONT AGREE WITH,NOR THE DIRECTION IN WHICH RM IS GOING,WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS DOWNHILL,IF IT WAS NOT FOR PEOPLE STANDING UP TO BE COUNTED IN THE PAST YOU WOULD BE WORKING FOR RM WHILST PRAYING FOR ANOTHER BAR JOB SOMEWHERE,OR BEGGING OUTSIDE A SUPERMARKET FOR A JOB.
LETS NOT FORGET WE ARE CURRENTLY ON RMS 3RD FINAL DEAL,AND YES I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE 2.5 PAY DEAL PLUS BONUS BUT LETS FACE IT BONUS DEALS IN THIS COMPANY ARE FOOLS GOLD,WITH THE GOALS MOVING EVEYTIME WE GET CLOSE TO MEETING TARGETS,AND IF YOU ARE HAPPY TO DROP TO 20 HRS TELL YOUR DOM HE OR SHE WILL THINK XMAS HAS COME EARLY,BUT WHEN YOUR 4HR DAY HAS A 4 HR DEL, 1 1/2 HOURS PREP PLUS TRAVEL AND NO OVERTIME TO BE PAID WITH 10 LOTS OF UNPAID D2DS,NO POUCH BOXES OR SAFE DROPS AND YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR OWN CAR AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE BECAUSE RM WILL NOT EMPLOY YOU OTHERWISE DONT GO TO THE UNION OR COME ON THIS SITE COMPLAINING,AND BEFORE YOU DOUBT ME APART FROM THE NUMBER OF D2DS THESE THINGS HAVE ALL BEEN TRIED AT MY OFFICE

Absolutely right. I'll never understand these people who think the job is beyond improvement and who think we should all be dragged down to the level of the Third World instead of wanting to improve conditions for those workers. Here we are surrounded by automation, the machinery being bought by the profits we have made, and still working 40 hours a week. We should all be on 30 hours a week for no loss of pay. We, the workers, are the wealth creators, not these 'Johnny-come-latelys' like Crozier pocketing the equivalent of £20,000 a week.

2.5% with the strings is a GOOD offer
If you don't mind loosing money and working harder for less.

If it was such a good idea why are they trying to force it through instead of talking direct to their employees , and why did 77.75% of those who voted, vote against it. Even following RM logic still over 50% of the work force who rejected it. Democracy not diktat.

i agree with all of the above
and when we reach a final settlement i hope your high moral standards means you reject and not accept any of the improvements reached by the cwu and the vast majority of its members who will lose money short term
but people like u gain the benefits without any of the sacrifice

I am happy with what I've got. I get paid enough for the work I do, and I work hard.
Strange that's why I voted Yes to IA - I'm trying to keep it that way. Whereas I believe RM are offering less pay, longer hours and harder work.

Confused I am
