UNION officials have challenged the boss of the Post Office to come to Coventry to explain why he is closing the city's main branch and moving it to WH Smith.
A letter has gone from the area branch of the Communication Workers Union, which represents most of the Hertford Street crown office's staff, to the chief executive of the Post Office, Alan Cook, asking him to attend a public meeting in the city in the new year.
Simon Gatherer, branch communications officer, said regional PO bosses had declined an invitation to attend a meeting so now they were going direct to the national boss.
"Post Office Ltd have branded themselves the 'People's Post Office.'
"If they truly believe their plans are in the best interests of the people of Coventry, they shouldn't have any problem in speaking directly to those people or listening to the views of those people."
