Meeting

Yes - it was all about the pension problems - you know work for another 5 years or lose £5000 a year when you retire (if stress don't get us first!) we sent our BM with questions like what happens when you are made redundant and it is frozen and they knew bugger all!

Have just Googled the term 'broadbanding' and it seems as though it has strong links with the 'pay-for-performance' rationale.

It's seems to have been knocking about in the USA for a while so it's not a new idea.

Seems there was a lot more to it than that... say... the CMA grades getting a pay rise over and above everyone elses.
Or cos they are going to 'executive action' the pay/condiitons proposal, they are telling them HOW they should tell us plebs, ie, in the office on a one-to-one to play the kid gloves bit so we don't go out again.

On top of all this we've had thousands of pounds worth of PC/LCD equipment delivered for WTL sessions.

The timing is impecable.

What next... I know... anally rape our mothers while pouring sugar into our petrol tanks.

Billy, You old cynic you!!!

Our meeting today started at approx 11am, with an hour about the proposed changes to the pension scheme. We were told not to cascade the details to the teams, as letters with all the information required would come out to individuals home addresses. We were told that we could discuss why we had been out for the meeting, and we were encouraged to tell our teams what our opinions of the proposed changes are. I am no pensions expert, but the gist is that the Royal Mail Group, for whatever reason, has to pay a load of money into the pension fund to fill the hole caused by the deficit, and has 17 years to do it. At the same time, continual loss of business and revenue means that the business has to find a way of reducing the bill for pensions, and the proposed changes are a means of doing that. I won't bore you with all the changes as they were a bit boring, but yes, there will be an impact for almost all people retiring after next year, and yes it may mean you may have to work longer to get the same level of pension that you thought you would get. Saying that the proposals don't appear to say anything about the Post Office putting less into the scheme or us more, it is just a different type of scheme.
We then had a Q&A session until lunch at 12:30 - 13:15, and when we returned after lunch we had a brief update on the pay deal for managers, which has been broadly agreed with the CMA, followed by a brief run-down on the Region's performance and our focus for the next few months.
No talk of executive action, no advice on how to talk to 'Plebs' (your word not mine), and no real detail about our pay - again. There will, undoubtedly, be managers who, when the new structure starts later this month, suffer a pay freeze that eclipses even the PO one, but as yet we have details.
Today's timing wasn't brilliant admittedly, but if there was a secret or hidden agenda then I must have been asleep when they read it out!
The plasma screen thing has been installed in every Royal Mail Group building as I understand it, and is part of a whole Group communication plan, not solely POL.

Billy no need to fret about the managers meeting, most if not all underperform so will be out of their jobs faster than you can say "whsmith". My only problem is somebody keeps knocking on the toilet door have I been found out !
