my son has just started as a post office clerk in a sub post office, had three days training and is currently on his own as the sub post master has gone on holiday until february 2012.
He's virtually been running it on his own for approx two weeks.
Although he has learned quite a lot, occassionally a problem occurs which he cannot solve, and although he uses the help phone, some people at the help desk do not give the correct advice or do not fully understand the situation.
Is there any way that he can get a person to come out to help him and show him where he's going wrong.

Re: new starter
I suggest he continues to contact the Network Business Support Centre. It may be of use if he takes time to fully explain his predicament to them, because I suspect that they, like me, would find it hard to believe that a Sub Postmaster could be guilty of such abdication of responsibility.
Given the circumstances I would hope they could arrange some appropriate assistance.

Chippers,
I don't want to frighten you but PLEASE, PLEASE ,PLEASE get your son to always run off duplicate listings of absolutley everything that goes through that office. Horizon has the capability to throw up problems that cannot be solved as many subbies will tell you. Although the subbie is away until Feb next year the youngster does not want to be put into a difficult situation.
If he rings the Helpline, always get a call reference number and/or name of the person dealing with the call.
I would suggest you get in touch with the local Fed rep; the Branch Secretaries are quite good and can help.
Regards

No, the Network Business Support Centre is the correct channel. He should contact them, explain his situation in detail, take notes on what he is told, and record the time and date of the call together with the name of the person he spoke to.chippers wrote:I appreciate Your comment and was wondering if there are any emergency numbers are available other than the helpline

try googling "post office horizon" to see what comes up.
There is also the evidence on the " inside out "programmes too; if Horizon is robust why do no senior managers come on the programme to argue against what is happening in person rather that just throw in the old "fit for purpose" comment. I'm sure they will be given the right of reply regarding these programmes but of course you have to question why they aren't accepting it.

My evidence is years working in several large Crown Offices, including two 'Flagships', with multiple Stock Units. I have seen a lot of strange things...sussub wrote:The BFO wrote:Tripe.sussub wrote: I don't want to frighten you but PLEASE, PLEASE ,PLEASE get your son to always run off duplicate listings of absolutley everything that goes through that office.
