At last a chance for us all to voice an opinion.

I know there are people on this forum that are critical of the CWU but in terms of what they have achieved for their members compared to the NFSP the choice for all subbies is obvious.

I for one look forward to their support.

Well done Mark and Nippy

May the force of the CWU be with you

I'll ask the question again..
What do you think CWU membership will mean after separation from RMG with particular respect to the mutualisation model?

Will a newly mutualised Post Office,no longer part of RMG recognise the CWU?
I doubt it very much...

The NFSP appears to be unpopular and although they are not a union as such, even as a CWU member i find the blatant poaching of members from another organisation to be morally questionable and distasteful.
I cannot for the life of me see how the CWU will be of much help to Postmasters after separation of the businesses and my opinion is it's simply a membership grab on the part of the union with little regard for dealing with the issues facing the members involved.
I can understand the wish to move away from the POL friendly NFSP but my worry is it will be anything but a revolution...just more of the same.

As far as mutualisation goes then it will be up to the members to decide if they wish to support that or not. This is just the first few days of the new organisation and no policy has been formalised yet. At the moment I guess we all have independent views. My personal view is that without complete control over POL then mutualisation will not be worth diddly squat. We need to clean out POL Management first and say goodbye to overpriced financial products and online sales. BOI as well if we could. We need to start selling things our customers want. Now that is what I would call progress.

Within 6 months the NFSP will no longer exist. It was always going to fold anyway with the new models. The only representative body for POL employees and agents will be the CWU.

The CWU aren't going to be poaching. If someone is dissatisfied with their lot then they are free to choose. POL and the NFSP aren't about to let people know such a choice exists. And I find that encouraging. Why are POL afraid of the CWU?

May the choice be with you

You don't seem to know much about Unions do you, yet you let fly with criticism about them.

Unions that affiliate to the TUC abide by a set of rules that prohibits poaching members. Any Union that sits outside of TUC affiliation is fair game when it comes to recruitment of members. The NFSP is a (so called) Independent Trade Union that sits outside of the TUC.

Mutualisation is a subject that I think you need to go away and study, its far above your mind set at the moment to have decent conversation with you about.

Separation from RMG (if it happens) will definitely require strong Union representation and the CWU have demonstrated that they are the ones best suited to protecting Postmasters against whatever the future holds.

I do not believe you are a Postmaster so what business is it of yours to comment on our choice?

I'm well aware of the rules governing trade unions.
I didn't say they were in breach of those rules.
I just said it doesn't sit well with me personally.

No-one has the slightest clue what Mutualisation may bring to the Post Office...you included.
At least unlike you i am prepared to admit that.
Perhaps the fact that you are not better explains your reticence

Again though..i'll ask the question....Union Representation against who?
Who will be the big bad man the union will be fighting?

I'll comment on what i like...if you don't like it...don't read it.
Some Union member you'll make. :cuppa

Ah Fishy if only you knew. One day I'll tell you. :nana

As for Union representation, we will fight for our members against whoever is trying to devalue the input we make.
You seem to think that a situation will arise when a Union will not be able to protect its members, I do not know where you get this idea.

So what happens then if only a few members decide to join the CWU,POL aint going to listen to CWU HQ with a few hundred in tow, they do their stuff with the NFSP.

Its not a question of how many 10s or 100s join. I think we are way past that already. It is a question of 000s. Definitely cannot be described as a few. You also have to take into account the loss of 2000 SPMRs starting next year who cannot be represented by the NFSP. Their only choice for representation will be the CWU and we will be glad to welcome them on board.

May the 000s be with you

Fishtank, It does seem to me that you are just a union basher :no no . I can't understand your logic at all. The CWU are offering the sub Postmasters/Postmistresses an alternative union that listens to the voice of its membership. My understanding is that the Federation failed to discuss anything with its members and they certainly never listened! George Thompson made agreements with POL that financially crippled the sub office network. I believe this new initiative gives the hardworking PM's the opportunity to have a voice as well as genuine representation and support from a democratic trade union.

I am also aware that a lot of hard work and consultation has gone on between CWU HQ and Nippy Singh and Mark Baker and all are committed to this new sub section of the CWU. There has been a lot of investment in this not least from these two guys who have stuck their neck out in order to fight for fairplay and justice for their colleagues.

I am a CWU member in the Crown network and warmly welcome them into my union and will do all I can to support them as I believe the whole network is a national treasure. United we stand :dance !
