BOSA.....All or nobody!!

Post by smj17 »

Bosa.....a bone of contention with most if not all counter clerks......either everyone has to do it (including part timers) or no one. Personally I would like to see an end to it....excuses made for part timers - they work part time because they have other responsibilities and cannot do the extra hours.....rubbish... I have responsibilities and have to work full time because of those responsibilities....Time for change....END BOSA NOW OR MAKE IT COMPLUSORY ACROSS THE BOARD.... :mad

Firstlt it's not BOSA it's COSA I am a part timer and in the past I worked a lot of overtime and I didn't have to forced into it I was asked and did so with pleasure. Now my circumstaces have changed so I need my set hours.

Where did it all go wrong that we now have managers that are so bad that they haven't got staff that are willing to help out and they have to be made to work their days off?

I do not agree with the flexible working part of COSA as in our Office it only works one way they give 6 weeks to fulltimers to work their days off but don't give the day back when given the same 6 weeks notice is given.

When an Office is so short staffed that flexible working is implemented it is only storing up trouble for the future, when everyone wants their hours back and what our manager seems to forget that the phrase "If opperationaly possible" was in BOSA but is not in COSA, but staff seem to scared to challenge this.

As Blue8 correctly pointed out COSA ,I worked full-time for 18 years but my circumstances have changed so I have got the right to apply for flexible working and have a set duty. I wouldn't really call looking after children an excuse, I understand your frustration but taking it out on part timers won't help. In all the years that BOSA/COSA has been in place it has never been used in our office mainly due to the fact that the incompetent management team can't even look ahead six days never mind six weeks. We may see in the Transformation talks all our staffing arrangements changing (god help all of us) part timers can still be part of the COSA and work their days off if they want but lets be honest would you in the working environment of all the pressure of sales we are put under now.

I work part time over 4 days and have often been happy to work an extra day. Just recently I have turned overtime down, although the money comes in handy, I just can't face more time at work in my office. To wake up last Monday, on my day off, and remember I had turned down a day's overtime was uplifting. I do feel a little guilty knowing my friends and colleagues are having to work harder due to bone idle, lazy management.

That's what they rely on, that and goodwill.
I've got to the stage where due to the constant sales pressure, I really don't want to be working a minute longer than i'm contractually bound to.
And all my goodwill has got up and gone, too - sad state of affairs, eh?!

They could always bring the ABM, or Financial Specialist in on their rest day like a full-timer or perhaps not, it wouldn't really make any difference to the queue or the staff.

Rest day!!! Both BM and ABM have had two days off this week, and the BM was only late once which is pretty good. Not complaining because the office is happier without them and it is easier to keep your eye on the whereabouts of one at a time.

My mistake but it amounts to the same....believe it or not our office is over staffed but we are still expected to do cosa.....as far as part timers are concerned, when I brought this up with my union rep I was told in no uncertain terms that cosa was only compulsary for full timers. As you say I don't want to work a day more than I have to...and as for being out spoken I can promise you that there is no one more out spoken than me....I am the bane of my managers life and so shall it continue...I don't envisage myself being there in a years time.....when I started I didn't expect to be treated like a naughty child..(no scrub that...naughty children are treated better) :mad

I suggest the next time you are given six weeks notice to work your day off, you wait for half an hour or so and then request the following day off, in accordance with COSA section 4.1. If your request is denied consult your CWU representative.

I suspect that if you continually adopt this tactic the problem will soon go away.

What I don't understand is why the union only agreed for full-timers to do COSA, you would think the union would treat everyone the same to me its discrimination towards full-timers.If it was me I would be going ballistic plus part-timers have more days off than a full-timer, next time our union rep comes I will have to ask her the reasons behind this agreement anyway smj17 you could always feel a bit under the weather and need a couple of days off.

our manager wants to change full timers duties permanently to cover days when we are short. can he just decide to change our duties to suit the business?

You need to ensure your CWU representative is aware of this.

Crown Office Staffing Agreement.

That's why you've never heard of it.
