Morning people,

Im thinking about buying a post office. I have seen one for sale and it just suits me very well....Im 26 years of age, I really thinking it would be a great stepping stone for myself...........or a very bad one.

This does worry me a lot, and they have dropped the compensation down to 1.5 years worth of salary.....If they did close me down id have a lot to lose.....but if they kept me open i could have a great life with it!

Should I give this business a miss, how could I find out of possible closers. How have you found the business in the last few years?

Humberstones have many Post Offices for sale just as the relevant agents have many pubs for sale, but might that be because, with few exceptions, there's not a lot of money to be made out of Post Offices or pubs anymore ?
It can of course only be your decision and you might do well out of it but investigate thoroughly first. Good luck.
And what's the alternatives ? Unless you're skilled or lucky there's not much going that's not minimum wage and/or part time.

Don't waste your money on a PO, trust me you will regret it. I would suggest you speak to some SPMR's in various areas to see how they feel.

Thats a very good idea getting their five year business plan, the research I have done suggests that as large business they really dont have a clue what they are doing. The services they provide are not competitive what-so-ever. They really do need to bring business back into the modern world.

Im not aware that the one I am researching is due to close, but nor can I find any information.


Do any of you enjoy doing what you do, I see a lot of people dislike the company. For me, there could be better investment to be made - I just like the idea of this one.

Spmr is short for Sub Postmasters.

I've recently bought a Post Office, We have a good retail trade too, which the Oost Office helps bring in a lot of footfall, due to this we can concentrate on the retail side.

I've not had a Post Office long enough to advise you, but from people I speak to some say they wouldn't go into Post Office some say they would.

Rumours are that they're looking to close approximately 2000 next year, and for the remaining branches they want to modernise the network, we did receive a letter saying that they wanted us to take part in a scheme to moderninse but now they've put it on hold, I hope this doesn't mean they are considering closing ours!

Majority of our local area rely on our Post Office and the footfall has been great so far.

If they want to modernise the local posty this is great news . A wise idea would be able to find out more infomation on this and see if the one I am after is or is not on the list.

Do you have one yourself? Good idea asking a few people what they think. Just out of interest do or did you have one, what makes you think they are not a good buy? There seems to be a lot of anger, and mixed feeling about this........also is the wage tax free?

5 years!? My office has yet to have an owner who lasted more than 2 years!
