Post Office Sign..

I'm finally due to takeover our Post office in mid June.

In regards to the signange, currently the existing company have the shop sign with their company name - News & Post Office.

Initially I was looking to ammend the sign for a temporary measure just to have News and Post Office and just remove their company logo - which others have done in the passed. They also have the Post Office lozenge - i think thats what its called.

We then will be looking at joining a symbol store such as lifestyle, best one etc..which will then use their sign.

Can anybody tell me, is it a requirement to have the shop front signage as post office red & white signage or as long as we update the lozenge, is this sufficient?

You are required to have a sign saying "Post Office" and a Lozenge, some symbol group facias have this incorporated into their branded signs, I would ask if the one you are choosing does this.

If you provide your own, get a local sign-writer to do it its a lot cheaper than going through POL who will charge the earth.

Ok thanks - so for example if i decided to stay independant - i can have my own sign and add post office logo to it and just update lozenge too? for example call it news and post office and put the logo..?

You'll have a list of requirements from POL for updates and upgrades, the POL logo, fascia, lozenge, menu boards, (all latest design, and compliant with POL specifications) (about £1300), and if you're in a conservation area, you'll need to get details and liaise with local authority and POL about exclusions and exceptions, any DDA requirements (low-level counter facilities, aisle width, etc), you REALLY need to talk to POL about this, if you haven't received their list of 'must do-s' - it's a requirement they will insist be put in place within 6 months or so of taking over. You should budget about £1500 for this.

I understand - I've tried calling them in regards to this, and the lady didnt know much about it, hence querying this.

My issue is, I wouldn't want to have the full sign for Post Office as need to highlight the fact that we're still a Newsagents and possibly Off Licence...in your experience do they accommodate this??

Read your contract, there is nothing in it about using POL's suppliers or spec. I went to a local firm and it cost me a couple of hundred including re-floating the lozenge, I even received a compliment from a visiting POL person for displaying up to date signage.
