No and they need to give you six weeks notice of flexing you up to work your day off as stated in COSA. Can you give more details of what's being done?

We are being told Branch Managers can not only change days off but also adjust the core duties without any consultation This applies to boh fulltime and part time even if a part timer has opted out of the COSA felixble working.

I don't know where your BM got his information from, as PO1 said "he has to give six weeks notice to flex full-timers up, and you can't flex up any part time staff its in the COSA agreement. He can change duties if someone falls sick but he has got to give you reasonable notice whatever that would be but you could of made arrangements for your day off.I would ring your union rep to get it sorted out, if all the staff agree to changes like we did in our office you can do it but our union rep was involved and everybody has to be asked even if it does not involve them usually its a trial run and we see how it goes, but you usually start them six weeks later because staff have normally made plans.I am a family friendly duty and i have a contract from human resources so my duty can't be changed only if i want to do in the future if my circumstances change.

Total rubbish. They can't just change days off nor adjust core duties without consultation. As for a part timer opting out of flexible working that section of COSA does NOT apply to part timers anyway.

If you are in any doubt read http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... 8_COSA.pdf

I think everyone is getting confused over the six weeks notice, that only comes in if the manager is flexing full time staff up he cannot flex up PARTIMERS if he is tell the union because its not fair especially if you have to sort out childcare. It doesn't go on in our branch because we tell the manager he is not allowed to do it.He can change scheduled duties if someone falls ill, but he has to give you reasonable notice, my advice to your office is to ring the union thats what you pay them for the COSA agreement is there to protect you.

Quote from COSA:...'It is the responsibility of the Manager to give six weeks notice of the need to attend on a scheduled rest day. It is the obligation of the individual to work this attendance. The scheduled duties are an agreed core, and are therefore subject to flexibility provided all individuals are given the appropriate period of notice. It will not be necessary to vary the hours of all full time colleagues from their scheduled duties on a regular basis'.

If your manager is changing the duties regularly you really need to contact your rep as this is unacceptable. Also BM's cannot make permanent changes to your duties without consultation and agreement with the union. They know this and are chancing their arm by taking advantage of the fact they think you will not notify the union. The CWU rep needs you to let them know of any malpractices such as this so that they can challenge management. Hope this helps
