Is this true?? Post office to lose Card account contract?

i'm aware they lost the benefit cheque contract, but I thought the customers could change to card account and get through the post office that way...

Somebody has now said that sub postmasters are being informed that the card account contract is going too???

Can somebody give me some information on this??

Post office limited got awarded the POCA by the labour government because they withdrew the bidding process and had to financially reimburse them.The contract validity is for five years from April 2010 to March 2015 so no need to panick yet.But the years do fly by, lets hope Paypoint have enough problems with our green giro customers and mess it up.

They already are! They've still not informed the shops with Paypoint machines, that they've got the contract. When I told a relative who works in a shop about it, she knew nothing about it. So she phoned Head Office to find out what was going on, because they simply don't have enough money in the tills to cover the payments. But they knew nothing about it either! Has Paypoint not considered the possibility that it's going to cause security risks for the shops?
Most shops don't have the security screens that POs have, so leaving extra money in the tills, is going to increase the risk of robberies.

I know that it's not coming in 'till 2012. But it's going to take time for these shops to sort out how (or more likley IF) they're going to cope. Can you imanging the response, when someone comes in to collect their money, and they're told they can't have it. Because there isn't enough money in the till, and the safe's on a time lock?
I can see things turning nasty, can't you?

I agree, it doesn't seem to have been thought through at all!!

I'm hoping we can convert as many of the customers as we can to card account anyway.

I should add that I am suprised that there hasn't been more noise about this.

One day the government promises that the Post Office will be the front office for government. At the first opportunity they take work away.

They've been in power a year, and there has been no new work added. The promise of Natwest and RBS withdrawals over the counter was made nearly 6 months ago - but they still aren't in place?

You can open a card account even if you already have a bank account. I know several people who have done so to either keep money separate or simply support the PO.

Never mind PayPoint taking over POCA work, has anybody considered how easy it would be to make Card Accounts useable in ANY cash machine rather than just BOI ones?

POCA functionality at any ATM coming, havent got a timescale but it will happen
