When Will They Tell Us???

I wonder when our wonderful leaders are going to formally announce how many crown offices are going to close next year?

Almost everybody connected with crowns knows that the axe is about to fall and with last week's announcements about the massive managerial job losses then surely the time has now arrived for the senior managers to 'come clean' about our future.

They must know that most of us have reached the same conclusion insomuch as we are doomed to failure, so why not put us all out of our misery as soon as possible?

My best guess is another (yawn!!!) national conference call within the next four weeks or perhaps a video to be screened simultaneously to every crown office in a WTL session.

Any thoughts on this anybody???

My manager cancelled annual leave to go to a meeting week before last and when she was asked by a member of staff why it was so important she refused to answer! She gave a knowing smirk and walked away. This left as all wondering what the hell was discussed/decided that we are not privy to as lowly counter clerks

A lot of managers I know attended what was referred to as a regional conference last week and none of them have exactly been 'cascading to their teams' what went on there.

Fortunately I was on leave and didn't cancel my holidays to be lied to and patronised for seven hours!

Not quite - Vince Cable said no planned, mass closures - I guess that leaves open the option of small scale closures to make the network more profitable, or unplanned mass closures when POL cant support itself because RM transferred to different "High Street" access points because the profit margins were better post privatisation.

Don't let it bother you.

The smirk is FEAR.

They somehow think that; even if they were told that, "this that and the other office will shut", that in with-holding this information from everyone else will in some way, put them in a better position than those "not in the know".
I can assure you that no branch manager is privy to any information like this, purely because POL underestimates a few of them.
Some simply will not obey their masters and stay quiet.
What is there to lose by talking?
I know a dozen managers who come back from these so-called secret meetings, and shout from the hills all that was told to them.

When the announcements are made, POL lump all managers at branch level in with the rest of us.

Think back to the last crown closures. EVERYONE at branch level found out in a WTL that we all had to go in early for, whether the office was closing or not.

I envision the same again. They will be very careful to stop any leaks again, as they will not want the press and public getting the jump on any plans.

I would say that your 'manager', (use that term loosely), is just being a bit of a c##t.

She KNOWS you want to know, and you are understandably going to ask, therefore she is playing a sick little game.

Thought it was "no redundancies" during the 5 to 11 plan, which I think runs out April next year. Shame, I'll almost have made it to 30 years

It WAS no compulsory redundancies until the announcements made on 11th October Mr. Postal Officer.

It looks to me like all those layabouts on so-called 'gardening leave' are about to have enough time on their hands to maintain Hyde Park, never mind their garden.

The worrying thing is if POL can force compulsory redundancies on a significant number of managers because their jobs are not needed (and because of a totally spineless management non-union by the way) then what's to stop POL forcing compulsories on the not-so-spineless CWU grades next March?

You may have noticed that senior management are remaining pretty tight-lipped about March 2011, despite the complete mess that we are in and despite our staff beginning to ask difficult questions about our future.
