I went to a branch meeting recently and was told that Andy Furey had told the POL reps who went to Bournemouth that a deal was in its 'infancy'.

News from today's conference call with Richard Barker.
When asked about this year's pay rise he stated clearly that POL would not be entering into pay talks until Royal Mail have agreed (or implemented I suppose) this year's pay deal for their staff.
Why on earth that means POL can't start talks with the Counters CWU is beyond me but then again, most of what POL do and say at the moment is beyond me!
Please note this comment was made by the man who has also said that he "didn't realise what impact the removal of ABMs from 146 Crown Offices would have!"
Staggers the imagination doesn't it?

Thanks Running Man, I was told the same thing by our Area Rep but didn't really believe him . Why should we be held to ransom by RM/CWU :mad

No: 359 Ref: 26 April 2010 Date: 26 April 2010

TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

POL – PAY NEGOTIATIONS: 1ST APRIL 2010

I wish to advise branches and members that formal pay negotiations will commence with POL this Wednesday and Thursday, 28th and 29th April 2010. These pay negotiations will encompass all CWU members working in POL, including CViT / Cash Centre workers (in Supply Chain) together with members from Crowns and Admin.

The CWU negotiating team will be led by myself, supported by Carl Maden and Ian Ward, Postal Executive members. Additional support will be provided by Andrew Towers, Research and the C&CH Department staff.

The delay in commencing these negotiations is unfortunate and is a consequence of Royal Mail Group centre insisting that POL could not enter into pay bargaining until the ballot for the CWU/Royal Mail Agreement: Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond had closed. Now that negotiations are due to commence, hopefully, we will be able to make progress quickly.

Please ensure that this LTB is brought to the urgent attention of all members working within POL.

Further developments will be reported.

All enquiries on the above should be addressed to Claire Bowers on cbowers@cwu.org or 020 8971 7361.

Yours sincerely

Andy Furey
Assistant Secretary

On account that noboby on the forum is offering any news whatsoever on a pay deal is it fair to say that POL management and CWU executives are just hoping that this issue will go away?
After all, everybody has the important matter of 'Q Busting' to worry about instead!
Sorry if my question inconveniences anybody who might be remotely interested in not having a pay cut (in real terms) this year.

I don’t know, but suspect some politics may be being played behind the scenes - Public Spending Cuts and the new Government’s policy on the Post Office etc. No doubt we shall find out in due course.

I spoke to the Head of Supply Chain last week, he said there was a meeting with Dave Smith & others recentley which was positve from both sides (CWU / Management) but this only concerned Supply Chain staff.

Divide and rule methinks!!! :nervous

Are you suggesting that this was an offer made by POL?
