Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, will be meeting senior Post Office executives this week to discuss the continued and persistent technical problems that have blighted Mobile Post Offices across Devon.

The meeting comes after a series of problems with the Post Office’s Horizon system, which controls banking transactions for Mobile Post Offices. The technical glitch has persistently left Mobile Offices unable to offer more than a skeleton service, preventing pensioners from collecting their pension and local businesses from using banking services.

Mr Cox said, “I am very concerned to learn of the consistent difficulties experienced by the mobile post office, which through no fault of the operators has on frequent occasions has been unable to pay out pensions on which people depend. I have been in close contact with Post Office over these breakdowns and am continuing to monitor the situation very closely.”

“In my view the branches which the mobile offices have replaced should never have been closed in the first place. When I meet Post Office executives in I shall be pressing for them to have an open mind about reopening branches where there is a proven need and the current ‘outreach’ system isn’t working.”
