Re: SICK LEAVE
If you go sick on a part day it does not count in the sick absence policy, and does not go towards the 5 or 15 for a stage 1. I have just had a rtw with my boss and we talked about it. However she did say that if it keeps happening then it could be addressed under the absence policy. ( if some are taking the pi**, which some people do!) .... I know of an office where one person regularly goes home sick on a Friday, the afternoon before her Saturday off, and she always manages to call in on the Saturday to say she was coming back so as not to count in towards a stage 1..... just a bit unfair on the rest who are left to cover her!!!

Re: SICK LEAVE
Hi
Been on a stage one due to a hernia operation developed an alergic reaction been off 30 days. They issued me at Sheffield Mail centre a stage 1. In march 2010. Had 2 more sick days off just recently got RECORDED DELIVERY LETTER TODAY! NOW ABOUT TO REQUEST FOR A INTERVIEW FOR STAGE 2 PROCESS. I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING TO HAND IN MY NOTICE AND JACK IN MY JOB WITH ROYAL MAIL. As if i get a stage 2 can only have MAX 2 DAYS OFF in a YEAR and the stages will take 2 years to clear if i don't have 2 days off sick. What will happen if i break a leg by slipping on ice and fall down. Do Royal Mail expect you to hobble in on cruches!!!. WHY DID THE CWU AGREE TO THIS!!!!!! :dcfo

Re: SICK LEAVE
If you go home sick after 1 hour attendance then 2 outcomes can happen.
1) if you attend on your next scheduled working day then does not count as sick.
2) if you do not attend on your next scheduled working day then part day will count as 1st day of sick.
1) if you attend on your next scheduled working day then does not count as sick.
2) if you do not attend on your next scheduled working day then part day will count as 1st day of sick.

Re: SICK LEAVE
Hi, If you have attended for one hour then this will not count toward an absense even if you have the following day off.
Speak to your CWU rep and always have a rep with you at an interview.

Re: SICK LEAVE
If you are off the next day i'm sure it would count as sick leave, if its your rest day you would have to communicate with your BM before your rest day eg. go home monday early sick but your duty is tuesday off you would have to ring BM by 5.30pm monday evening. As previously said the BM does make a note of it so it doesn,t become a regular occurrence.angela wrote:Hi, If you have attended for one hour then this will not count toward an absense even if you have the following day off.

Re: SICK LEAVE
That may not be correct as the CWU may have a different agreement with POL than they do with RML regarding sick absence.angela wrote:Hi, If you have attended for one hour then this will not count toward an absense even if you have the following day off.

Re: SICK LEAVE
POL Attendance Procedure
12. PART DAY ABSENCES /Doctor’/Dental/Hospital Appointments
If a member of staff is scheduled to attend work on a particular day, but does not attend that
day due to ill health, this would be recorded as a full day’s sick absence, irrespective of the
number of hours they were scheduled to attend.
However, if a member of staff performed at least one hour’s duty on a particular day, but was
unable to attend for the rest of their scheduled hours due to ill health, this would not be
recorded as a sick absence.
All medical appointments should be arranged in the individual’s own time whenever possible.
However, if this cannot be done, time off may be allowed for attending such appointments.
The line manager may ask for evidence of the date and time of the appointment, e.g.
appointment card/letter. The individual should not be expected to make up the time lost.
Such appointments are not taken into account when monitoring under the Attendance
Procedure.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
