Sorting out the Bankers' mess

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Got this email - posted in case some members have not yet seen it.

Hello Teebs,

I'm writing to tell you about an important part of our strategy to keep the post public - the Post Bank. We announced our proposal yesterday to show the future of a strong and modern Post Office - one that we invest in, rather than rip apart and sell off to the highest bidder.

The idea behind the Post Bank is really simple - there are currently 3 million people without basic bank accounts in the UK - and the Post Office has more branches than all of the banks combined. So we're proposing that we roll out banking services into local communities - turning our backs on the Bankers that got us into this mess, rebuilding the trust that we all used to have in the Banks and giving the vulnerable access to safe and high quality banking.

And with the old financial system in crisis, the new Post Bank is an idea whose time has come.

It's all about local, friendly banking at the heart of our community - reconnecting our fractured economy. The Post Bank shows what an asset our Royal Mail can be if we invest it in properly; it's about putting people rather than profit first. But the Government's plan to privatise our post threatens all of this. By scaling back service and increasing prices they'll cut off the lifeblood that's crucial to the success of the Post Bank.

To put it bluntly - the Post Bank simply won't work if Peter Mandelson manages to privatise the post.

Thank you - by building our post into the heart of our communities we'll all benefit; a first class post and a safe and secure national banking system, run for and by the people.
