Buying a sub post office

Post by maxxy240 »

Hello all
first of all it is good to see royal mail staff here. i am thinking about buying a sub post office. it may sound silly but could some one please tell me how the whole remuneration system work. I want to have some basic information before i go to banks etc. Kindly treat me as a newbie bcoz it is very confusing for me how the whole system work. as different post offices have different salaries. how does the salary system work is it fixed or commission based . Kindly if some one can explain the wage system to me i will be very thankful i am only 21 and thinking about starting my own business.
Thank you so much

Moved to PO forum.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Very briefly,
the pay system is transaction related , if you carry out a PO transaction you get paid something for it, for most products think in terms on the return on selling a bar of chocolate or even a greetings card from time to time. but bear in mind that some of the things we do do not recieve a payment, proofs of posting, looking up postcodes , checking card balances etc. The type of office you go for will mostly be designated as a mains or local , the range of transactions undertaken differs and there is no hard and fast template that determines who does what.
So payment is very variable with a peak in December when the world and his wife uses their dearly loved 'local' post office to send their ever diminishing pile of xmas cards.
be very careful to do your sums and look for an office that has a strong (or potentially strong) retail offer.
good luck

Maxxy 24o from my experience of being a subpostmaster, if you want to get rid of large amount of your savings/borrowings quickly , in the past you would burn it. Now a quicker method is to buy a PO.

POL will 'big' up the experience but the returns are minimal for the time and money you will invest in running one. Please reconsider your decison. if i had my time again I certainly would.
