Does anyone know which branch of the Social Services we can report this 'person' to?

I have worked as a mailroom postman at BO's, both POL and franchised.
The POL ones have at least decent basic conditions, though the morale of
the counter staff can depend on how good or bad their manager is, and how they are treated.
The franchised ones have terrible conditions. The franchisees spend as little
as they can get away with. And while I have encountered one or two decent
franchised BO managers, their hands are tied by the financial constraints imposed
on them by the company or individual holding the franchise. And the staff can be really badly
treated - I met one woman who was refused time to go for pre-natal checkups. She wanted to
join the CWU, but I was told by the National Organiser that we couldn't recruit Franchised BO staff and
that she would have to join USDAW. Fortunately she got a better paid (and unionised) job at a
local hospital. At another franchised BO a pregnant woman was told that she would have to transfer
to another BO miles away in Essex, apparently in the hope that she would resign and they would not
have to give her maternity leave/pay.
This is the future for the POL staff (including Counter Managers) if Leighton and Crozier get their way.
The 70 branches handed over to WHS will be just the beginning. They will all end up with
even worse pay and conditions than they have now unless they stand together and fight.

big james..... got the wrong end of the stick methinks ...by doing your job i meant not doing everything that a manager 'thinks' you should but doing it by what we call a 318 now thats just what these guy/gals (no i'm not j.s) should and not pander to these so called managers who dictate rather than engage . i think if we look at the overall problems it does seem as if the 'managers ' are bringing it onto themselves and it's down to willingness to stab there fellow managers in the back in the quest for more brownie points , and the staff are continualy placed under pressure by over zealous types like this..
now any one can see that these 'managers' are 'jobs worths' and if you can call it promotion are the types who will do anything to gain the 'look at me factor' from senior managers these people are not promoted for there knowledge or skills but purely on there groveling tecniques and the fact there willing to buy knee pads for promotional assesements

We need to get around the fact we were shafted by the Govt. over the years and they are not looking to keep us funded. Therefore we need to establish other avenues of income."

Are you a total twat or are there more bits to be added yet? Our story is one of regular and methodical reduction in rights and increase in workloads to provide the profit that subsidises idiots like you. When you can spare the time to get out from behind your cosy little counter and feel 120 kilos of mail a day digging into your back while you walk around in the rain with the prospect of your wages being reduced by stealth and your business destroyed by people with no experience of public service, then I will put up with your naive and inexperienced twaddle. We are worlds apart in most of our experiences of the business we work for - but as someone with almost 30 years of retail experience and most of that in management before becoming a postie, I can tell you - I would rather employ people with fire in their belly than the "ooh yes let's do that" brigade that appears to have formed your opinions.

You work for a public service that is in decline because it's overseers have decided that that is the way it will be. No amount of cooperation or compliance will avoid the decline that has been planned - only resistance to change for the sake of change will delay it and only complete inclusion of unions and the public will save it.

Your comment about the Govt not looking to keep us funded is nearest the mark - in a few years you will not even be working for the business as it is now and you will not have a union to protect any rights that you will have lost in the meantime unless you join USDAW whose record in such things doesn't exactly sparkle (Do W.H.SMITH recognise USDAW?)

You entered the arena - you cannot choose who you speak to, or who speaks to you - so live with it.

p.s. Have fun with your secret shoppers, league tables and all the other little things that make your day exciting and before going back to work on monday ask yourself - does my childish enthusiasm make a blind bit of difference?
The ''arena'' I entered was the one that said POST OFFICE and sub headed by ''All Post Office Staff''. Hence the reason I asked for responses from POL Staff. So please jump back off the band wagon and spend some time at the Gym if your 120K bag is too heavy and sore for you. I take it you didn't realise that being a postie involved walking around with a bag of mail in pretty much any weather condition. Crawl back under your rock please Rhino.

POSTMAN, the comments on taking money or moving on can sound pathetic but it depends on the perspective.
Like we all ready know, jobs change, industry changes, ways of working change. Its just hard lines if it doesn't suit an individual. Thats when you need to decide, 1. Am I able to change as well 2. Do I need to move on as this is no longer what I want to do or am able to do.

Some people just are not able to promote the products, but thats not the business' fault. I have experienced people almost at blows over this. Now thats not good for anyones health. But instead of making the decision to move some think its their given right to a pay off. Having to work alongside that type of individual is mind numbing. Everyday its like groundhog day same old same old. Whats even worse is that they don't even want help to try and increase capability, they see the stand off as more appropriate.

I feel that the certain individual that acts like above really cannot accept change in any way.
1. to change their place of work and move on
2. to change their current way of working and accept what is now required

I'm not saying change is a wonderful thing, but its just how it is sometimes.

Why should other people in a unit/office have to put up with these individuals. Im not saying I personally enjoyed moving to the way we work now but at the end of the day I am paid money to go to work and do a job that is asked of me. Having so many people still driving against it is quite taxing.

promotion of products is not the work of the counter staff thats down to 'advertising' now i here that r.m do have an exc who once worked in this field ?? yes they should be able to answer most questions ?
how do you change the job that counter staff do ? do you want them to go onto the streets and hand out flyers , walk around with boards , when i go into a p.o i get what i want if you expect customers to stand infront of you why you extol the virtues of p.o insurance, bureu de change, etc... then thats just holding up the people who are queing to buy services and goods from you and who perhaps aren't the most patient of people just maybe they nipped in on their lunchbreak etc.. why not have some plasma screens we have some spare sure theres a deal here somewhere

as for going to the jim 120k doubt wether you could lift that matey, but i ......?

The office in which i work is irrelevant to this Thread.

Axeman, you'd be surprised just how many people are thankful once they have been introduced to a product/service while in on their lunch. On many occasions ive had people come in just to thank us for telling them about whats available.

You're right up there with Albert Schweitzer, Mother Teressa, Mary Seacole and John Wesley.

Last job was a Lumberjack. It involved getting rid of a lot of dead wood. Maybe just what RMG need to start doing.

and no armani mate it's most certainly not my bag although it's quite funny even now after all those years
