Re: Olympics
This did cross my mind but I discounted it as POL do not do this sort of thing for Sub Offices. The only way to open a Sub and for the Subbie not to lose money is to do it themselves and not pay any staff. I agree the incremental income will be meagre and probably not cover the additional electricity used. Maybe they hope they can undertake some higher value services such as some currency transactions. I suppose in tourist areas, this might be feasible but certainly not for the Sub opening near me.POSTMAN wrote:Breakfast?Lounge Lizard wrote: With not many more than 300 Crown Offices left quite a few of the 500 will be Sub Post Offices and as the meagre profit from selling a few dozen stamps wouldn't entice them to open they must be being given some other financial incentive.

Re: Olympics
I'm sure i was told that Royal Mail are to foot the bill? They want to have the stamps on sale as soon as possible, so they are to give PO counters the budget to open. Although when I asked where the money was coming from again last week , my manager just shrugged her shoulders!

Re: Olympics
I believe that Royal Mail will be paying for the majority of the costs. We were told that it had to be overtime, not hours back later, as the costs were being pulled out centrally.

Sorry, I have no idea, I'm in a Crown, but I imagine if RM are paying for us, they ought to pay for everyone else.capitalbiker wrote:so are RM underwriting the costs of opening on these Sundays for all offices or just the Crown Offices ?

Re: Olympics
I work in a sub office and saw the letter to the Manager asking if he wanted to open the Post office during the Olympics back in April. The incentive was to give any office opening £100 when he saw this my boss immediately said he would open. So far he hasn't approached any of us about coming in to work. I know he wont pay anybody though and will only offer time off if he does ask anyone.

Re: Olympics
Presumably £100 each Sunday, it's only for about three hours and the Sub Post Master might not need anyone else in if hardly anyone anywhere knows he'll be open and he does little other than sell a few dozen special olympic stamps.mary398 wrote:I work in a sub office and saw the letter to the Manager asking if he wanted to open the Post office during the Olympics back in April. Re: Olympics
Well, I suppose that is a reasonable "bribe" to come in and very probably do very little. However, what an absolutely scandalous waste of the taxpayers money as presumably Royal Mail will be paying as previously suggested.

Re: Olympics
Not exactly 'taxpayer's money' and having them on sale at a reasonable number of Post Offices is presumably necessary for it to be accepted philatelically as a genuine issue of stamps.paulpg36 wrote:Well, I suppose that is a reasonable "bribe" to come in and very probably do very little. Re: Olympics
OK but RMG (and POL) are still owned by HMG. Yes but it is not really necessary to open specially to sell them on a Sunday! Total overkill.
