Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
Oh, about the 'public sector employee' thing. A (pretty much defunct now) second rate service, run by second rate managament, overseeing second rate employees, working for a second rate wage and second rate pension. Largely because NONE of them are first rate material. Go on, giggle, you know you want to !!!!

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
I agree that the wage and pension is second rate but I believe we provide a first rate service. As for management and employees, we are a mixture of rates like any other large group of people.
Anyway, you couldn't have first rate unless there was second rate. If you got rid of all the second rate people, you would have to divide the first raters who were left so that the top half could still be first rate as they would need the bottom half to be second rate to provide a comparison group. You could carry on exterminating the second raters until only two people are left.
If you could find a sidekick who is submissive and agrees that you are first rate and he is second rate, you could live on an island with no other people and be happy for the rest of your life, provided you don't outlive your sidekick.
However, you are obliged to earn a living so you have to join in with the generally accepted view of a civilised society. Next time you want to order some money, follow the correct procedure.

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
They have to wait until Christmas so that they can bribe us with our own backpay at a time when we need the money.
It's the same story as last year. A low offer is made a few months after April. The Union tell them to come back with a better offer. After a lot of lame excuses of why a deal cannot be reached, a marginally better offer is made just before Christmas, only this time, there are loads of strings attached (that we are not told about) which involve us doing more for our money. The Union recommend this offer to us saying "this is the best deal ever". We are so desperate for our backpay that we accept it.
We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas...

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
minister,i agree that looks like what is happening AGAIN..
but surely as a workforce the time really has come to say deal with my pay claim, plain and simple.
it looks to me as though those days have come to a very sorry end.i put the blame on both sides, the reasons why we will probably never know(back scratching,a wink for a nudge, etc).
put simply we are once again tied in knots.what annoys me is the constant wait for what should be a straight forward look into a basic pay claim.rant over.

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
Isn't it about time the (alleged) senior managers of POL came up with a better ruse than the one referred to by the minister?
And isn't it about time the senior CWU officials wised up to what those (alleged) senior managers are up to?
The 'trick' that the minister refers to is in fact OLDER than the OLDEST trick in a really OLD book but still remains the best that they can come up with!
Surely there's a graduate entrant out there that can be employed to do just as bad a job in the day to day running of POL as the current charlatans do, but who can also be at least a little more clever in offering a terrible pay deal?
There's still some great universities out there......at a price! (But that's a totally different debate).

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
it seems as though the sneeky tricks are not quite so sneaky.
so i say again deal with my claim.inflation is now up to 5%.
the size of any deal is always up for debate, but the dodgy info is most certainly NOT.
Mr furey hang your head..

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
unfortunately the CWU are so far up the backsides of POL. Deals year on year are so obviously manipulated by the so called topdogs of POL and CWU. There is no reason the deal could not be sorted in April, however both parties see it fit to string along us year on year and tell us a great deal is on the table just before Christmas.
When will the CWU grow balls and insist a pay deal is offered at an acceptable time and get out of the top POL Anus's and actually start acting as a union? Maybe it's because they are being paid in kind by POL they won't act properly(enjoy those golf days Andy and Co). CWU need to act as a union and not as a section of POL.
Make no mistake, this deal should have been in place in April and the CWU have let us down badly as usual by not representing their members. As usual they are happy to play golf with the top brass and ignore their members. It has become obvious that a CWU membership is now just an insurance policy, "if i fall short of conduct/sick policy, cwu will stress the rules" other than that the CWU IS A JOKE OF A UNION THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY NOW RUN BY THE POST OFFICE.
POL are happy to take the Mickey and string out every pay deal , I would love to see any rep or union body argue this point as theymust realsise there is no arguement.
Rant over. Has anyone any info as to whether a pay deal maybe implemented this year?????? Is it that difficult for the POL and CWU to keep staff informed on their future?????? obviously!!!!!
Question 1 on the have your say survey?????
1. Does management and the union work well together?
let me think
BOTH PARTIES ARE A LET DOWN!!! POL-DON'T CARE ABOUT STAFF AND CWU JUST WANT OUR MONEY. BOTH PARTIES ARE A JOKE

Fantastic rant aliofashy!
I for one can't argue with any of the points made.
Is there anybody out there who can?

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
It's a fair question from the BFO.
Although I said I couldn't argue with any of the rant, I didn't necessarily mean that I have documented evidence of all matters referred to!
However, I too would love to know if they do enjoy 18 holes together.
I reckon it's up to aliofashy to provide the proof; it's over to you. (And by the way I really hope you are right because it would explain an awful lot).

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
Good grief. How ignorant can this debate get??
Firstly .....Yeh you could have had a pay deal in April. The CWU could have taken what was on offer but it would have been CRAP!! Is that what you guys want?? It is the role of the CWU to negotiate on our behalf and not accept any old rubbish that is bought to the table and I am proud that they are holding out and refusing to accept pay increases that amount to a pay CUT!! If you don't get that then you do not understand basic trade unionism.
If (as you ridiculously state) the CWU are cozy with POL then why do you think they are taking so long to conclude a deal? Your logic astounds me and it certainly does not add up. The CWU have not concluded a deal because the pay offer is just not good enough for ALL its members !! Duh?!
I will tell you what....those of you that think that a 'quick but crap' deal is better than 'drawn out negotiations that secure more for the membership' may want to look at other pay deals and the progress that was made from original offers to the final deal. Come on guys do the sums and work through the logic and stop whinging for the sake of it.
If POL do not make a fair and reasonable pay offer taking into consideration inflation and the rising cost of living then I for one will be totally behind this union as they are trying to get you the best deal they can so that you and your families can have a quality of life. Nothing else would be acceptable !!

Oh and for the record, the CWU do not play Golf with POL Management! FACT!! In fact it appears to me that some people on here make out they are union members when they appear to be spreading propaganda on behalf of the business. You are suckers if you believe this type of bulls**t.
I am outraged!!!

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
Why are you telling us you are outraged?
Who cares?
Don't you think that Supply Chain PAs on £325 a week feel outraged that the lowest grade in Swindon Stock Centre get £43 a week more than them?
Maybe you think you are more important than an ordinary rank and file member.
Furey and his team may not be playing golf with senior management but what sort of pressure are they applying for a good deal?
It doesn't help that cash centres are understaffed (ours by 20 FTEs last week) and management are able to dish out overtime to undermine Union loyalty. One bloke at our place has made over 4 grand since January. I have repeatedly raised this issue with our Area Rep but we are still understaffed.

Re: Supply Chain pay negotiations
Yeh you are right! Who cares what I think. What I should have written is...the propaganda on this thread is outrageous!
You need to make up your mind. One minute you are moaning about the CWU not securing an acceptable pay deal then you are moaning that you are underpaid. Do you want the union to fight for a decent pay offer or not. They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they had just accepted the first offer that was put on the table. They didn't because they have a responsibility to their members to try to secure a decent pay deal and maybe you should have a bit of faith.
By the way, I have read your previous contributions on Swindon Stock Centre....aren't Swindon a different pay grade to you? Also do they do the same job? I think you will find that they probably also have a diverse group of workers as Swindon is a multi-cultural area so I don't think all your arguments add up 'again'.
