Just 'cos I chose billyhayes as my username does not mean I am him.
Glad to see somebody else shares my doubts to the authenticity of "rwbarker"

To see others upset through my post on this matter are totally missing the point made

Or do they still believe in Father Christmas ?????

It doesn’t matter if he is the real Mr Barker or not, since he doesn’t say anything useful, which may indicate that it is indeed he!

My point is that this is a public forum and offensive language does not show us in a good light, no matter who it is directed at.

There are many arguments in our favour, amongst them:

1. Who says we should make a profit, and what about the social need of the service we offer? Is the National Health Service profitable?
2. If you accept that Crown Offices should be run on purely commercial lines, then how is ‘Income’ attributed, and is it done so appropriately – the obvious example being the difference in Travel Money Margins, and the ‘Income’ attributed to the Branch. There are other questionable items in this regard.
3. Further, if we are not to be credited fully for our ‘Social Role’ then why do we continue servicing the needs of the ‘Financially Less Sophisticated’, and less able in society?
4. Why should we pay the price for mismanagement? We all see daily huge waste, caused by poor direction.
5. Ms Vennells cites wide disparity in Throughputs across Crown Offices, and implies this is our problem, when clearly Senior Management has failed to keep this under control.

I’m sure there are others who can think of much more, and that, I suggest, is where we should be focusing our efforts.

Just a couple of points there.

This is a private forum. Admin can confirm this I think...

The NHS is not profitable. That is exactly why the ConDems are closing then en-mass and selling others to the lowest bidder to be privately run. Bit like the PO really.

I agree with you about the 'social role', alas, management don't so... :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

PS - I'm not really Billy Hayes...

I'm Spartacus...

No seriously, truth is... I am Iron Man.

etc etc.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Hey c'mon. We may disagree about how the Crown network should be run, but dishing out personal abuse is not necessary. It's a good job I'm not a sensitive soul. The reason I won't enter into debate in this forum is that I don't know whom I'm debating with. Give me a call and I'd be happy to talk.

I think it is public in the sense that anyone can gain access, customers, journalists etc.

And, please believe me, I am the original, one and only, BFO.

Absolutely agree about the personal abuse comment – I am sure you are genuinely doing your best to do your job. That doesn’t mean I have to approve of what you do. As a 25 year plus bod, I have a tie to this organisation, and I think some bad mistakes have been made, principally on the focus, to the exclusion of everything else, on Sales, resulting in terrible Waiting Time performance, and now it seems concerns over efficiency. This is by no means all your fault or within your control, but you are there to promote policy, and convince we minions of that policy.

With regard to entering into a debate on this forum, the fact is that only a small minority of staff know of its existence, and an even smaller number actively contribute. Are we the disaffected few, or do we accurately represent the views and feelings of the majority of our colleagues? And does it matter anyway? I think I generally reflect the view in my own office, but then our office is a pretty poor place to work in terms of low moral etc.

It would be wrong for you to engage in an argument here, but I would be interested in your comments on the five points I made above.

I am anonymous because you are in a position to make life difficult for me – assuming you are who you say you are!

Also the email you sent me meant nothing,it's not a RM/PO address.
Not too interested if you are RWB or not,but if you want to confirm it you know what to do.But i doubt you can.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We may have had a 3 year pay deal in 2007, but the end result was most POs have seen their take home pay reduce. In 2007, we had saturday premium. If you say an average of 3 hours per week, that would give you a salary of £19,265. Now it's only £19,150. We only accepted that because the pay agreement clearly said there would be a pay review in 2010, and as it wouldn't take much of a rise to make up the difference, then fair enough.

Now theyre playing with words, and trying to say that a zero % pay 'offer' is an offer.

Cutting our pay affects our pensions too, especially the frozen bit!

Mr Barker, if you wish to verify your true identity, can you answer this question.

What is the name of the Sub Postmistress (now retired) who ran the office close to where you live?

Not detailed enough – anybody could get that. I want to know the name of the Sub Postmistress’s cat.

Blimey - you're a doubting lot. I assume you mean Sandi Brocklehurst who sold the Crewkerne Post Office a while back. Didn't even know she had a cat.

If you are that Mr Barker and I have no reason to doubt you, perhaps you could advise a customer who wants to praise her postie. I am sure she would be most impressed if she got an answer from somone so high in the company's structure. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =2&t=33836" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know the postie does not technically come under your purview but if you could help the customer it would be most appreciated. :Very Happy

Than you in advance. Teebs
